Quieter footsteps

High lvl NPCs can 'see' much further. So sometimes it just looks like Quieter footsteps do not work
Yes but I didn't think it helped with visuals - just being able to run/walk behind people closer than you would with (Smeagol-style) "Sneakin'".

There's several times when I wish I didn't have to crouch and just bolt! That crouch time limit seems to last forever...
 
I've noticed, or at least felt (completely non empirical here) , it most doing scavenging stuff and trying to snipe out npcs in wide open, dark side of the planet spaces.

A lot easier to take shots and reposition without them following or turning to your new facing.

This could simply be confirmation bias and not accounting for other conditions though.
 
I've been using Quieter Footsteps for a few weeks now and it's great.

As mentioned previously, sprinting and running is louder than walking and crouching.

I think the surface you walk on also matters - its easier to be stealthy outdoors when moving on actual ground and not a metal floor.

I feel like most of the time guards actually hear me because of the jetpack boost noise - I wish there was a mod to silence that as well.

Sight has nothing to do with this though. If something can see you the QF is irrelevant; the two processes (sight and sound) are handled separately.

NPC LOS logic and how they react depends on a lot of things but I never noticed anything to do with level. That sort of claim needs to be backed up :)
 
Ok, I thanks. I walk up on a few but didn't notice any difference. Not really helping me. Glad I didn't have to grind out this mod. It seems like a waste.

I really like the Quieter Footsteps.
As the description mentions, it offers a 50% reduction of the "i hear you" distance.

I'm actively using it even in non-stealth scenarios since it avoids most if not all the guard scans.
The problem is i got so used with it that wearing a suit without it already costed me 2 agro scenarios because i failed to submit to scans...

I will. No offense meant; I was just trying to maximise my use of the forums by getting advice from others.

You are right, you don't need to prove yourself. Perhaps I read your post incorrectly and responded incorrectly. Again, no offence intended.
 
I was actually referring to Ydiss post.

I am happy to be wrong. No problems with that. But this is what I have noticed and I have had quiet footsteps as the first mod on my Mav suit. Some high lvl NPC manage to notice me even though I considered my positition/distance/los/whatever to be good.

No... Nice try though!

I have had it on a premium dominator suit for ages and tested the mod there. I only just got it on my maverick stealth loadout due to smears only being fixed in patch 5. As I've been busy with other things in RL, I've not gotten around to actually using the mod in a proper situation. So, all in all, I'm content that everything I've said is based on actual testing and it'll be backed up 100% in a video soon enough (said video is sat on my hard drive right now, but I'm not bothered about uploading it specifically to prove any of this).

I may do that but I felt it pretty important that if you're going to state something as fact that you'd at least confirmed that properly (and if you then showed me that you had that would be awesome; it's an interesting proposal at least). What an NPC sees doesn't matter with this mod though, it only impacts what they hear. I'm not going to demand you prove it but I don't see why the onus is on me to do so either.

At any rate, I've not seen anything that suggests what you said in my experience, am open to the idea if it can be demonstrated, but this topic isn't about LOS functionality, so it's off topic.

Well, to summarize it, QF is so good that i have it on my Battle Dominator and on 2 G5 Mavricks

You can trade data with other commanders.
Which is nice. I play with a couple of others from time to time, but I really don't think that this something we'll do very often beyond specific engineer unlocks.

To me Odyssey is already flattening out. While I enjoy the missions and looting, once I have all the toys, why bother doing the missions?

It's like taking your fully engineered ship into battle, not really that much fun after a while. Stomp the NPC, move on.

as in to be noticed.. be that hearing/reading/visual/magnetics/alpha waves
 
so how does quiet footsteps work? I just wanted to take some notes so the next time someone says that this is a realistic space game unlike very unrealistic "other space games" ... i can be sure to back them up with some examples.
