Quit the 'force people into Open Play' nonsense.

So what's the suggestion then? 'Shut up everyone' ..?

PS: Forced open play for all! ..some of you might even git gud [haha]

Or maybe you git gud and try fighting players that have the Equipment and Skills for PvP :)

As for that Suggestion of Forced Open Only for everyone.
The more Likely Scenario is that the Game will lose 3/4 of its Playerbase and will Die as an Result of that.

I know that Griefers like you cant have Fun unless they Ruin the Fun of others. But the thing is. If a Game aint Fun People dont Play it.
And Sorry. But YOU are not what I consider Fun Content for my Game :)
So any Game in which I am Forced to bother with an Annoyance like you is a Game that I wont Play.
Simple as that.

Bob lighthouse, i might have known. He tryed to bully me over my ship build, just wouldnt leave me alone

Bob is a well known RPK and Griefer who has been suggesting that the Game should not have Solo or Private Mode in the First Place and that most of the current Mechanics that mark you Criminal for RPKing should be loosened up or removed.
Long Story short his Idea of a Fun Game is that he can be a Pest to others and Ruin their Fun.

To that End he often uses provocation and/or falsified or misleading Information to pretend that Elite Dangerous would be a PvP Game and that anyone who doesnt want to PvP in Elite should basicly not Play Elite at all.

No No..

I think we SHOULD force everyone to play in Open.

Then just give the same tools that Xbox Live gives to block particular players from instancing with you if they want to play like jerks.

Problem solved for everyone.

No Thanks.
No Offense but all that would do would be creating a Stupid Hassle because everyone would run a List of 500+ Blocked People and would still not be able to Play in Peace because he would still end up with a Griefer every single day.

This would not Fix any Problems.
Also its an extensively stupid and annoying system as well. Because it means that a Server in the Backround constantly has to match out every Single Instance with People which nobody in that Instance has Blocked.

Imagine this.
P1 blocked P5 and P9
P2 blocked P1 and P9
P3 blocked P3 and P1
P4 blocked P18 and P38
P5 aint blocking anyone
P6 blocked everyone from P1 to P50
P7 blocked P8 and P38
P8 blocked P4 and P2

and so on and so fourth.
And now the Server has to somehow fill Instances with Players where none of em has blocked any of the players in his Instance.
In the End you would basicly end up with a System which is a complete mess.
Especially when another thing happens.

In Instance A.
There is currently 5 Players.
P1, P2, P5, P8 and P12
Now P2 wants to Play together with his Friends P3 and P4 and asks them to come to the Station where he is Docked. He Sends them a Wing Invite and they Move to him.
But P1 has blocked P3 and P4.

So what now ?
Will you try to just tell P1 2 oh hey sorry but someone Blocked your Friends so they aint allowed to come to you. You need to Change the Instance somewhere where nobody has Blocked any of you.
Or will you just ignore the Block and allow the Automatic System that puts Wingmembers in the same Instance as other Wingmembers in that Area ?
You could also just not do anything. They will Dock at the station and wonder. Hey why is our Wingmate not here which will then say I am here where are you ? :)

Sorry but that Suggestion is Bullcrab and only causing Trouble.
Its a Fix for a Problem that does not Exist. Because we already got a far Superior System called Private Groups and Solo Mode where you can Play with your Friends without any such Annoying Hassles.

Nah, the game would improve exponentially due to new interest from players who otherwise wouldn't touch the game.

<snip>

Haulers forced into open will have to adapt, improvise and overcome. PVPers, on the other hand, when faced with invisible haulers, have to say "if you can't beat 'em, join 'em."

<snip>.

Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear.

Firstly: Different platforms;
Secondly: Different time zones (or just different times of play - for instance - I'm mostly a 0545-0700 UK time player - and now playing a new CMDR on PS4 instead of my kickstarter PC account);
Thirdly: Instancing.
Finally: Blocking filters.

All 4 of these things mean we are effectively all segregated in some way, anyway. What you are imagining is that we all play on the same platform; in the same instance; at the same time; and cannot block one another.

Clearly, that's all a load of old tosh. Even if you made something "Open Only", there are numerous ways to circumvent the chances of "meeting an opponent" in order that the vocalist can blow the hauler ship to smithereens, so, really, stop ing about making work for Frontier that will be actively circumvented by players after the fact. What a waste of everyone's time.

Sadly, the moaners will no way practice what they preach. That is entirely out of the question. Can you imagine the ranks of the PvP crowd hauling PP tokens in a T-7 or similar, and "asking" to be interdicted by combat ships in order that they can have some fun getting attacked? Nope. Me neither...

My only concern is forced open play means camping at engineer locations.

Let's say I'm bringing in a huge load of exploration data to felicity farseer. Let's say I spent months or even years out in the black gathering that data. That's going to be a place where gankers can lie in wait to really ruin someone's day. That amount of grief would even be worth the rebuy cost. Costing a ganker a few tens of millions is a drop in the bucket to the amount of grief you can cause an explorer on a return trip. That doesn't even compare to a cargo hold full of rare goods. Ganking a trader costs a few hours of time. Ganking an explorer costs a massive time investment. A lot of explorers (including me) also prefer to run with no shields because less weight.

Out in the black I normally play in open to see what systems have been explored. But during that critical return trip I would definitely fly solo.

However if there was a way to bypass the crafting for engineered gear, you wouldn't have to bring data back to that one NPC. You could sell your data wherever - which would make it much harder to intercept an explorer. It might happen occasionally, but it would be random happenstance, not something deliberate or systematic. I could live with that, I guess.

"I want engineers and I want forced open" is just "I want more ganking"

Never said it doesnt work.
Only Said that the System is completely unnecessary cluster**** and only causing trouble.

See Mate. If you got High Blood Pressure instead of taking Medicine that lowers it you can go to a Doctor once a Week and have him Drain Blood from you.
Actually Works perfectly fine.
But no Offense Mate. Its an annoying bullcrab system that is entirely unnecessary trouble.

1.
Apparently not. Otherwise you would not ask that People that dont have a Chance to fight back are Forced into your Target Sights :)

2.
Nice Dreaming. But no. If you want to know what kind of Playerbase such Games have you should Check Mortal Online.
Greatest Game I ever Played in Terms of the MMORPG Mechanics. Live Combat System where you actually need to Hit Enemies. 100% Online and Open World without Loading Screens. Extensive Crafting Systems. Full Taming and Pet System etc etc etc.
And it got like 50 Players Online Average.
Why ?
Because its unrestricted PvP. So if you go out 10 times you will likely be attacked by RPKs 15 times.
Bam. Everyone Gone.

Hardcore PvP Players that Enjoy being at Risk of Attack by other Players at all times are Incredible Rare Niche. And there is Tons of Games for them out there which are 10 times better than Elite Dangerous with its crappy Combat System :)
Sorry Mate. But you can Deny Reality all you want. It doesnt Change. If this Game was Open Only the Game would not even have 1000 Players Average on Steam Charts :)

If this Game was Open Only the PvE Guys which are the Vast Majority would not Practice anything.
They would simply not have Fun in the Game and thus Play something else.

How about this:

Make plenty of systems ganker systems, but have them spread out a little so non gankers can enjoy open and navigate around them well enough.

Any ganking outside of those systems incurs a short ban with each consecutive offense getting longer and longer playing bans.

That way gankers can fight in the open, and those who do not want their time wasted by juveniles or adults who act like juvenile hoodlums can avoid the gankers.

And FD would see very quickly that the systems in which the gankers inhabit fail miserably because nothing but ganking gets done in them, and then they would do something about the ganking once and for all.

I’m Ethelred and I’m an incredibly rare niche.

Seriously though - there is no risk in the next couple of years that “people will be forced into Open”.

So, kick back, relax, pick your mode wisely and fly safely.

You're not comprehending. And I think it's a peer to peer vs dedicate server mindset you're having. BUT... The XBL system works fine.

It's seamless.
Things like ganking still happens.
Things like meeting new cool people in Open still happens.

I never said that YOU said it doesn't work.

I only ever said THAT IT WORKS FINE.

Stop being contrarian.

IT
WORKS
FINE.

I dont think this would work and I dont think that Gankers should be Tolerated at all.
The Crime and Punishment System is still a Joke. Where you Kill someone costing him up to 10 Million in Rebuy while you get a measly 50k Bounty which is worth crab.
If they made a Proper Crime and Punishment System then the Problem would not Exist.
The Fact is. When you Kill a Player outside a Lawless System you should be Marked Murderer. You should get a Bounty of 1 Million Credits + his Rebuy.
And when you get Killed as Murderer your Insurance should be Void.
So when you get Killed as Murderer you Should have to Pay your own Full Ship without any Insurance. And on top of that should also Pay the Bounty the other Guy Gets out of your own Pocket.
When you Gank ALL of the Gankers should get the Full Bounty not just the one dealing the Finishing Blow.

Then you can bet that People would Think about it wether they want to Kill some Harmless Sidewinder which is neither Carrying anything nor any Danger to others.
Then you can bet that People would Think about it wether they want to Participate in a Ganking Squad and just Randomly Attack People for no Reason.

And it would be far more Realism Based then the Current System where your Insurance basicly Covers Criminal Activities.
Imagine your Insurance in Reality Covering your Car Damages when you destroyed the Car in an Escape Run from the Police after you got caught Smuggling Drugs in it.

You are an Incredible Rare Niche.
Nothing bad about it.
But it is a Niche that has Hundreds of Games available and only very few Players. So Games cannot Run on this Niche alone.

And no.
Removing Private and Solo would be Suicide for the Game and will never happen.

What has a real Chance of happening however is that the Modes will become Unequal by Open offering actual Game Content and Features that are not Offered in Solo or Private.

And that alone will be cause for Grief for alot of Players and will result in a ton of Negative Consequences.

I am Saying the System is Vastly Inferior to the System of just having Solo and Private Mode where you can Play with Friends and have Zero Sealclubbing Zero Ganking etc etc :)

Why Replace a Superior System with an Inferior Cluster****

If that is the premise you play an MMO game, then why even play an MMO to begin with?

If that is the premise you play an MMO game, then why even play an MMO to begin with?

Simple Answer.
I am not Playing an MMO.
I am Playing Elite Dangerous which has been Advertised and Promised as being Fully Playable in Single Player.
Thats called Solo Mode.

To begin with. I am always a bit reluctant to call Games that use Heavy Instancing MMOs.
You See its nice to have 1000 Players on a Server. But if you basicly at all times just Play with like 8 Players because the Game Seperates 80 Players into 10 different Instances.
Then Sorry but somehow I dont see how this could be an MMO.

But thats a different Story.
Fact is. I am Playing Solo and Private Group.
So I am not Playing an MMO.

If that is the premise you play an MMO game, then why even play an MMO to begin with?

Your problem is that E D is a game with a MMO-like facility, it is not a "conventional" MMO which requires inter-player activities. Yes I know there are people who want it to require inter-player actions but since many of us don't want that and it wasn't a requirement when we bought it, it isn't going to happen.
