My twin brothers do swordsman re-enactments. One does HEMA (I have NO idea what that is, or what it involves), while the other (and his girlfriend) are more into the medieval swords and armour style (they all have competed at tournament levels, and done well).
The Condottieri were around in the 13th/14th Centuries.
