Radar - Exploring and other functions

Hi Cmdrs

Tis me Eric again - asking stupid questions. Please bear with me.

I started another thread yesterday just telling you all about a spooky meeting I had and managed to ask a question in that thread - the answer was a bit of a shock.

So the Question now

The Radar
I know about zooming in and out - easy and self explanatory
I was told to make sure my Radar was set to Liniar when looking for planet side POI's

What settings can be setup for the Radar - and do I need to remember to change it back when in Space etc

Regards

Eric

Hi, me again.

I always leave mine on linear, there are only two choices, linear and logarithmic. Someone once did say it should be set to logarithmic while in space, I very much suspect logarithmic only works properly in space, in theory it should allow you to see objects further away. In logarithmic mode an object that shows on the radar as twice the distance could actually be much further away, but on planetside when looking for ground based POI's the max range seems to be about 5km, even though you can see ships and bases much further away. In log mode small POI's at max range just don't show up.

Hi, You again :)

Thats good to know, I was worried that I had flown thousands of light years and scan, landed and looked on hundreds of planets with a Radar looking or working in the wrong way and that there were a raft of settings I was missing.
Thanks again for the information

Eric

So, got home from work - went to turn on the Puter to check out my scanning and the bloody wife informed me that tonight was my night to cook Dinner ( did I do wrong, after 29 years of marriage, you'd think she would just leave me alone lol )

Anyway - after Dinner I logged in - flew to my first planet with Volcanic action - check my Radar was set to Lineir and started skimming the surface at @ 2KM hight - and hey presto I got a Blue Circle (dam yo have to be fast and watching all the time - it didn't stay there for more than a couple of seconds), I immdiately spun the ship round and landed as near to where it was as I could and out I went in my SRV. I found the POI - it was a downed ship :(

Anyway - I took off again and started searching again - in total that evening I found 4 POI's - all either DataPoints or Ships so still no Guesyers but now I know what to look for properly I will endevour to find them :)

Cheers Veronica for you help - I cannot give you anymore Rep yet - apparently I have to spread my love around before you get more - but heres a +5Rep anyways

I still think the radar is only a small part of finding geysers (experience of only finding three sites!).
The location (large canyons seem to be the place mainly) is still the main factor.
Using radar I only ever find 'junk' [knocked out]
