Radeon 6700 (non XT) problems

Climbing back into the cockpit after a several year hiatus I am faced with screen blanking out for 1 - 2 seconds during gameplay. The only thing that has changed since the last time I played was switching from my old Nvidia GTX 1070 to my new Radeon 6700 (non XT).

I did remove all traces of the old nVidia software and drivers before installing the Radeon drivers and software.

Has anyone else run into this?

Thanks...

that may help...……………………….

I have been going through that thread searching for a fix that addresses my problem. From what I have read so far it does not address my problem specifically. I have no problem loading the game and the graphics are perfect in from a generation standpoint.

My issue is similar to the message you get when you load new graphic drivers and the message pops up that the screen my blank periodically during the install/upgrade process.

I will keep reading and see what I come up with.

Thanks for the suggestion!

shader prep in the in game gfx options may have an effect (I use nvidia myself) periodic deleting of the gpuworktable.xml too
sounds like the min ed launcher may help u too which is currently in discussion atm give it a butchers

Thanks for the additional tip! I will give that a look this weekend.

If I can't figure this out soon, I will most likely be switching back to nVidia or may also consider the Intel Arc cards....

I just returned after almost 2 years away. I recently discovered the problems that drove me away were caused by AMD driver issues. I've experienced no game-breaking issues now that I switched back to NVidia. Every issue I've had with other games and software are also resolved.

6700XT user personally and not had any issues bar the orbit lines with the latest drivers.
My previous 6900 XT didn't have any major issues. It was lots of little issues that many may not care about. For example, many players don't even have orbit lines turned on. I became heavily reliant on them for SC navigation years ago. Those broken lines made ED unplayable for me.

It's all a matter of personal preference...

Did you use DDU for this, or did you try to do it "manually"?

AFAIK manufacturers don't really bother making the uninstallers of their graphic drivers (as well as many other types of drivers) actually clean up the system completely of everything that the installer and all the myriads of driver updates have done, restoring the system to a completely clean slate as it was before the driver was installed for the first time, and thus they may leave behind lots of registry entries and settings files that might interfere with other graphics drivers (or even updated versions of the same driver, sometimes). It's always safest to use DDU to clean up the system from all traces of graphics drivers, as it has been designed precisely for that purpose and will scour out even the last bit that those drivers leave behind.

As for getting occasional black screens for a few seconds... have you checked it's not a hardware problem? More precisely, your DisplayPort or HDMI cables (whichever you are using)? The bandwidth rating of those cables actually matters, and if you use a cable that does not support the transfer rates you need, that's precisely one of the typical symptoms you get, ie. occasional black screens. (I don't know why switching the GPU would affect this, if you are still using the same display resolution and refresh rates, but who knows. Different GPUs may have components of different quality and may be more susceptible to artifacts caused by poor-quality cables...)

While I didn't solve the problem, the problem in now non existent since I got an EXCELLENT deal on a RTX 3070 and with that installed, no more blank screens....
