Rag tag fleet signup thread

Hi all, given that aliens have been sighted and some peoples desire to engage them in warfare.. (I blame testosterone poisoning ), it is only a matter of time before they turn hostile and slaughter humanity.

So everyone who wants to join a rag tag fleet slowly making its way to a reputed refuge safe from alien attack can sign up here

Only the best at avoiding death will be accepted*

Bill

or being able to sing "Brave Sir Robin ran away" in its entirity :D

I will certainly be 'monitoring developments' and am happy to let Canonn act as canon, fodder .. and allow these brave Commanders the opportunity to seek out chinks in the aliens armoury. Should things get hostile, and if "they" show little or no weaknesses however, and should initial resistance seem set to fail, I will still have no intention of accepting "their" rule .. so will be happy to join the rag tag in order to quietly plot .. rebellion.

Thing is, I actually like this idea.

Sign me up.

It depends how things progress. So far, the entities have been peaceful towards humanity, as far as we know.

If a species with peaceful intent is pushed towards hostility by a largely xenophobic humanity, I do not think it would be ethical to side with the aggressor in the name of some falsified "defense".

Edit: that does not mean I will shy away from self-defense, defense of non-aggressive humans, or aiding or evacuating innocents, however.

I should ask .. will there be a code-phrase?

So if someone says, "the flowers are blooming in the park .. at midnight near the red square"

While touching their nose (or handing me a box of matches) ..

Will I know they can lead to safety? Or that they may be the rebellion?

moment i saw the evidence they ended up on my KOS list.

humans interdicting humans is fine in my book, but one advanced race interdicting another is a crime! Sign me up for this!

I think it's far to early to assume there was even an intentional interdiction. The FSD jump became unstable. It's entirely possible this is caused simply by the proximity of the alien ship, due to inadvertent interactions of the respective races technologies.

We should try to make sure we understand what's actually happened before we reflexively form battle-lines.

Yep, best way to view one is in a rear view mirror as a high-wake field encloses my ship.

(if only I had a rear view mirror)

This is true .. however, the alien ship seems aware of the ships whose FSD it has affected, coming to a stationary only a few kilometres away, before emitting some form of energy and then retreating. Their senses are surely either deciding the Commander poses a threat to them, or why not just sit there, confidently? Or they may be gathering statistical data (contacts are coming in from all over). Otherwise any sentience finding these encounters accidentally would surely either keep their distance or not even notice you. No. I think they perceive a possible threat and like the OP here are looking at exit plan while the visitors also seem unnervingly, curious. Many Commanders are also curious but like the OP says, it's better to know your exit route before you even sit down to the poker game.

Exit routes are good, and I agree with the OP's initiative.

I am only suggesting that aggressive actions taken in "defense" of those who initiated hostility doesn't make one a defender. And suggesting that we can not infer knowledge from our ignorance.

<for the record, I could have swore I first read something about fighting aggressive aliens in the OP, but apparently I'm delusional. :D I fully support the OP as it stands now>

Hate to say this but these beings seem somewhat bio-mechanical and many animals have extremely acute senses that allow them to recognise individuals in ways you and I can't imagine. In the past I worked with owls and they'd recognise you by the 'sound' of your footsteps (seriously, they'd know who's about to feed them by the squeak of your shoes .. dogs use smell for recognition, for another example).

I think we're OK talking here because I doubt they understand English but in any case there's a lot of noise in the forum chatter. But the creature or creatures (do we even know it's a ship!?) are large, lumbering and grey .. reminds me of an elephant. Probably picked up your scent { heartbeat or brain-wave pattern } immediately Cmdr. Would know YOU anywhere! And elephants NEVER forget.

;)

Rag tag! Rag tag! Rag tag!

C'mon this has to happen!

Given I posted this as a sorta not very serious answer to all the comments I've heard/read today about 'killing the aliens"

I think its being taken in a far too serious manner......

When the war comes, I actually expect to be on the line standing between humanity and night, and I dont expect to survive that encounter, but if it gives our civilian ships time to evacuate more people, then it will be a life not given in vain.

And I expect all of you to be standing alongside, whether imperial , federation, alliance or freelance.

Well, I really want to take it seriously.

If I have your grace... :)

If you goal is to preserve life, you don't get there by planning to kill. You get there by planning for peace, and spilling blood only where it's unavoidable.

If war comes, I will work first towards lasting peaceful coexistence, second towards aiding those in need, and only to killing in defense as a last resort.

All for it Commander .. women and children first.

A pact of non-aggression towards the lifeforms, followed by the defence of our species, carried out with extreme prejudice. The trick I think will be in deciding when the potentially accidental loss, of a few Cmdrs with itchy trigger fingers, appears instead to be attempted ominicide and invasion. Will it already be too late? Keep us posted .. and may the 'flowers' never 'bloom' ....

You're actually right there. Perfectly plausible that we're sitting here thinking 'Oh my God why are their ships pulling us out of hyperspace and scanning us, are they going to attack us?', meanwhile on the Thargoid bridge they're thinking 'Oh my God why are their ships pulling us out of hyperspace and scanning us, are they going to attack us?'
