Engineers Railguns - plasma slug special effect question

Hello forum!

Im curious if its worth getting an all railgun plasma slug built Anaconda. Im curious whats the exact -dmg penalty for having the plasma slug upgrade? Also curious how much does it drain your fuel? So if anybody has messed around with it before please share me your thoughts and experience.

I tested that mod in the beta somewhat,
it is roughly 32-34 shots of railgun either c1 or c2 for 1 ton fuel (reserve tank is drained).
The damage fall off i did not test consistently, but you should be able to see it in the outfitting tab,
i think on c1 base dmg is 23 you get to 15/16 dmg per shot.

i've done grade1 sturdy mount for 2 c2 rails on my Python.
Damage drop is 1\4 went from 40 to ~31.
But believe me, you'll fry your Conda in one shot of all your rails.

IMO - no.

From a min/maxer point of view you are better off with either level 4 overcharged pulse lasers or level 5 Multi's... and I personally dislike multicannons - but I'm still sporting 3 on my Corvette.

I have 4 imperial hammers in reserve, two with plasma slug. They are fun but not practical on large ships.

To use them effectively you need to build a cool running ship and when you do you give up a lot of the engineer-enabled utility.

You will have lower power at your disposal and your shields and shield boosters will be significantly weaker compared to their "hot" modification counterparts.

My favorite place for a rail gun with slug is on a Courier center gun.

I even tried 2 on a conservatively built Python and I was running into heat management issues.

I fiddled and fiddled because I wanted to "make it work" - I'm still messing around with it but right now it's just not that viable.

One work around is to go a stealth cool running build and totally ditch everything shield - that might work - but you won't be able to go all railgun because it doesn't synergize with stealth/armor, and if that's the case why not go all Multi?

Without the other 15 Engineers, right now the answer to any serious weapon question is unfortunately "Multi cannons"... and believe me, I am not a fan.

I have 2 short range grade 2 plasma slug rails on the middlemost medium hardpoints on my FdL. The rest are multicannons (huge overcharged incendiary, medium overcharged thermal shock and medium high cap corrosive rounds).

It's makes a great PvE and PvP combat ship. It's the most fun I can get out of the FdL by combining fixed fire combat with gimballed. The "git gud" ship while being insanely powerful. Slap on an extra fuel tank and pee pew pew!

I recently put 2 x C2 on my anaconda, and I can get 3 double shots off before I run into heat management issues (not that I am that bothered about a little heat damage). One is plasma slug and the other is the one that damages all modules on the same trajectory (forget the name). I am tempted to replace that one with a plasma slug also, as the first thing that causes me to leave combat is usually running out of rail gun ammunition. The module one has a high capacity magazine (46).

3xdouble shots is usually enough to drop the shields on anything, sometimes with a little beam laser accompaniment.
