Ramblings of a VR newcomer.

I'm yet to try The Vanishing with the new VR DLC. Perhaps this weekend if time permits!

Whilst I've never felt VR sick, I have noticed lately that after long stints of ED, my brain will sometimes think I'm rolling and my vision will momentarily spin.
It's an odd feeling that serves as a reminder to how desperately I can't wait to get back home and put on my Vive again lol.

There's something about "The Vanishing of Ethan Carter" that is sick-inducing. I think that it's because it doesn't give you enough options for method of movement. When you move forward you are pulled slightly in the direction you are looking and there is no option to decouple this. That slight loss of control over your movement is gut-wrenching.

It may be that this choice of slowly dragging you in a direction you don't want to go is to alleviate the symptoms of a worse control option, but seeing as I'm not given that option then I can't find out what's more comfortable for myself.

There's a game called "Windlands" where I go swinging through a towering city landscape using grappling hooks like a fully realistic version of "There's Two Wires". That game causes less collywobbles than "The Vanishing of Ethan Carter"

Never had any issue with Vanishing of Ethan Carter. You walk where you look, or use the second joystick to turn your head if you are in a non-swivel chair. I have more issues with teleport as its a total immersion breaker and that moment of complete disorientation when you teleport is horrible.

I've had my rift just over a week now and can play stuff like Quake with no problems.

In fact I can think of only one gut wrenching thing that still happens and that's the E:D external camera. No idea why :\

Is that Quakespasm Rift? That's good news if it is. I Tried getting it to work with my DK2 a couple of years ago but couldn't manage it. It sounds like it's time to try again <grin>

Thanks for pointing out that Quakespasm now works with CV1. It even had the shareware version of Quake built in so all I had to do was download it to play.

I had a blast last night playing through to the end of the shareware demo. I'm going to have to search the bottom of my drawers to see if I've still got the original game.

It does go to show about all this talk that it's impossible to play 1st-person shoot-em-ups with the headset. Quake is the grand daddy of the genre, and I played it with no stomach hassle whatsoever.

It was much less problematic that Half Life 2, but the problem with that game was the way it streamed its content. Every now an then the whole world would lock to your head movement as the game paused to load the next part of the game... barf city.
