Random Alliance bounty when I logged in?

Can someone tell me why I have a 40,440 credit bounty in the Alliance when I logged in?

I am a Passenger/Trading ship that does not partake in combat. My ship doesn't even have guns and I logged off 2 days ago in EMPIRE space in the Zhao system and when I went to my transaction tab I suddenly have a 40k bounty in Alliance?

Did I miss something?

It sounds like a fine of that sum expired and turned into a bounty.

Were you scanned by Allied Police ships while possessing illegal goods last week?

Did you have an Alliance fine? Fines become bounties after a week if you don't pay them.

Edit: Ninja'd :)

No I haven't had ANY dealing within Alliance space. My home base is Zhao and RARELY leave Aisling Duval space. The only times I do is to run VIP passengers who pay a buttload.

Hence my confusion.

Must have been a disgruntled passenger. :D

Is that a thing? I did have one CEO with a stick up her butt. She got VERY upset when we were scanned by the station we left and the station when we arrived.

Just a quick reminder that it doesn't matter who controls the system as long as an Alliance faction is present, each system is divided in jurisdictions.

I know that. That is why I am so confused.

- I never transport illegal cargo

- I never transport wanted people

- My Python doesn't even have weapons

- I have never been scanned or attacked by an Alliance security ship

- I haven't even been to Alliance space. I went straight to Achenar after I got my Dolphin. Before that I spent 100% of my time in the Federation starter area

Your passenger being scanned did not get you a fine, unless that passenger was wanted in the jurisdiction you were in at the time.

Bear in mind the following...it is easy to ACCIDENTALLY pick up a wanted passenger and for that passenger NOT to be wanted in the sector that you are in, therefore you won't see the 'illegal passenger' line on the HUD. Check all the systems you were in recently if you can remember, I expect you'll find that one of them has a station controlled by an alliance faction. When that's the case, you don't HAVE to go to that jurisdictoin to get scanned by their 'police', it can happen at nav buoys, tourist attractions, and anywhere else you drop out of supercruise.

I realise this seems improbable, given that you don't pick up wanted passengers, but it is the only explanation that fits, bar a game glitch, which I have to say seems unlikely. In what system is the Bounty? Have you been there recently? Is there an alliance station there? If the answer to all of those is yes, then my explanation remains the most likely.
