Randomized skins and patterns

i always use random color and random pattern and never had one of the movies. on the start of a new game i havent got unlocked alot of combinations but the ones of the movies are unlocked from start. but i never saw a dinosaur with random settings with a movie skin. so i also dont believe that its included in the mix.

It might have to do with the fact that there can't be a pattern to go with the movie skins. Though if that is the thing preventing it, I'm wondering why there can't just be a check before the pattern is decided to see if there's a movie skin and then set it to "blank"

Or why they still won't be picked when it's set to be blank to begin with...

just a small idea on that one as it has now the movie-skins implemented in the randomizer:

as the movie-skins seems to be into the randomizing cycle as soon as the color is random we got alot of movie skins early in the game. i often select random color but empty pattern. in my understanding this should prevent from using movie skins. when you set color AND pattern to random is should also mix in the movie skins (as they work as a kind of color & pattern and not color only).

just as an idea. so we would be able to control a bit when the movie skins will be in the cycle. but i like to have them into it as i normally select random every time :).

... and i think the pattern of the dimetrodon is broken. there is no selection other than empty and random and every non-movie-skin dimetrodon has the "rana"-pattern on it.

Hey KingPhantom! I'm not 100% sure what you're suggesting here?

My idea is the following handling of movie skins in randomization to prevent to have a ton of movie skins early in the game as they are unlocked from the start.

if you dont set color or pattern by yourself (every dino will have the same) and use randomization:

color: random
pattern: random
behavior: selects random in color and pattern AND movie skins (as the represent combinations of color & pattern)

color: random
pattern: emtpy (the one left from random)
behavior: selects only random colors NOT any movie skins as the empty pattern locks them out

I'd say it'd work better (and allow for patterns too), if next to the selection is a toggle where you could check or un-check canon skins/variants.

Could it also be possible to let us choose different skin colours and/or patterns to save us having to synthesize more than one clutch?

For example, if I'm wanting to create both Velociraptor 1997A and Velociraptor 1997B, I can choose to have them both included within one creation before I start synthesizing an egg clutch.

This would be a lifesaver for those playing challenge mode who need to save a few thousand dollars...

I think it would be something to see, as far as skins are concerned, more pattern and color anomalies like in nature. Melanism, pie-bald, leucistic, albino, and a lot of 'morphs' you see in domesticated birds and reptiles.
