Rank not increasing/ barely increasing?

So, for a player that has been playing this game since the 2014 Preview days, it seems weird that my combat rank is still Dangerous @ 27%, Explorer @ 85%.
It seems like for every 10 million I hand in on Exploration data I earn .25%. Since I've been picking up and playing this game in the last few months (hadn't played since the late 2.5xxx(?) version) I've seen my explorer rank grow from 83%, to 85%. This includes a few trips to Colonia and back, and a visit to Sag - A with a detour on the way back to discover black holes, as well as several excursions out into the Synuefe sectors. I have probably done half a billion in exploration, since returning to the game for 3.0. Does it seem normal for exploration rank to be crawling this much? Or am I experiencing a corruption/ bug?

Before my return back to the game I was hunting pretty avidly, week-after-week, just BH'ing high res and hazardous zones, which was always a favorite past time. It was my preferred way to making a measly 3 mil+ every hour, as my objective was not $$, but rather fun and faction reputation. I also had been avidly merit farming, and making thousands in just hunting Federal agents, and couriers but, still...my combat rank is Dangerous @ 27%. I've literally not seen that one move in a very, very long time. I honestly can't think of the last time I seen it move.

Just wanted to get opinions. Even if I wasn't trying to rank... one of my ranks should be Elite by now. Just by sheer consequence of shooting down an excessive amounts of Wanted targets, with no real aim, or objective other than having fun, since 2014. Even if no missions were involved at all...but I have done SEVERAL passenger missions, including back in the Quince hey days of passenger runs, where all you had to do was stack all you could and scan one beacon to complete them all. I also did a ton of early Quince surface scanning jobs, shortly after. Back when you could just buy a Sidewinder, scan, blow up and return to Hub to complete the mission. Back before any ranking nerfs, etc. In fact I did so many passenger and scanning runs it helped me to afford and deck out both a Clipper and a Cutter, as that was back in my imperial naval rank grinding days, starting from almost nothing, all the way up to Jarl (?). And even after buying the Cutter and realizing that to fully upgrade it was going to take 2x the cost of the ship itself, I came back for more scan jobs. All that in mind, does it sound just a little bit weird my rank progression is this slow? I've heard of people just turning in one trip to Sag - A just to fully rank their Exploration. Yet I can do the same and maybe see 1% increase.

Trade rank is notoriously hard. It will require a billion and then some. This one's about profit.

Combat rank is *slow*, Thargoid Scouts are currently your best bet.

Your exploration rank, well, yeah, that does seem slow. That sounds like it warrants some further investigation.

Yeah it's a bit weird. I have been hunting Scouts of late. Only managed to rack up 350,000cr worth, but no progression increase on rank...yet.

Exploration is the one that's a bit concerning to me. You'd think a trip to Colonia and back would do it...much less 3 trips to Colonia and excursion to Sag A.

Do you use Crew/SLF?

Your NPC crew will decrease the progression rate of the combat rank.

Yep only experimented with crew once before with my Cutter and fired the crew when I went to take off to Colonia, and sold my Cutter. I was unsure how their compensation worked, didn't like the Cutter's bulk for exploring (slow super cruise manueverability) and felt the crew would be draining my finances while away. Turns out that's not how it works. I have a crew member now, but this is new to me within the past week, as I am focusing on Thargoids.

It requires upward of 300M in Exploration data to get from Pioneer to Elite. A good page of exploration data gives a couple of million, let's say 3M. A trip to Colonia is 400 jumps, give or take. Let's assume that's 8 pages of good data. That means around 24M in Exploration data for a one way trip. That means a one way trip should give around 8% (very roughly).

Not sure if this still is the case, but (hauling/trading) missions also added to your trading rank in the past. Missions have boosted my trading rank pretty well I'd say.
Explorer, well, get lost in a Neutron field and be done with it.
Combat is almost impossible for me. I've been stuck on deadly for years.

With regards to combat rank, it's important to remember that credit value of bounties collected have no impact. It is based solely on enemy rank, and ships ranked lower than the CMDR count less. When Dangerous ranked, enemies Novice and lower do not count at all. Going from Deadly to Elite takes about 1800 Elite target kills, or adujsting for more varied ranks, 2400-2500 kills.

For example about the enemy rank value falloff, right now, you would need to kill 4 Competent ships to have the same value as 1 Dangerous ship.

Slightly more accurate I recently went to Colonia scanning a bit of stuff but mostly jump/ honk and cleared 35m credits.

I'm already Elite explorer though. However, two trips to SagA*, with lots of hanging around scanning entire systems if no one else had, got me up several ranks. Generated a lot of credits too

Road to Riches will get you to Elite in exploration from where you are now.

Okay I think what you have just confirmed is, say, 50 million in exploration data of mostly honking is not as "rank increasing" as 50 million's worth of detail scanning. I mix it up, and only really stop to scan the ELW, as I see them.
