Ranking up factions...and permits

Hi All,

I was looking for some information on how you rank up factions and get permits and it seems that the information that is out there is very old...So old that the main thread that explained everything has been closed as it was out of date.

I understand that each "mission" you complete ranks you up slightly against that specific minor faction, and adds some reputation for with the "main" faction. However everything I read seemed to be based on just the empire or federation. As someone who has signed up with the Alliance, I assume this works in the same way and that really I should focus on missions given to me by members of the alliance or alliance friendly factions (correct?).

The real question is how long does it take to rank up? I've been making sure i take missions (where possible) from Alliance friendly but seem to have only gone up a tiny %. When i looked yesterday I was rank 1 and 1% (if I'm reading this correctly).

Now onto permits. I know I need to get a permit in order to get into Sol, but can i achieve this permit with the alliance faction or will i need to change to Federation in order to be able to get the permit?

Thanks in advance.

Yeah you slowly gain rep by working for minor factions that are Alliance. Once you hit 100% in your current rank you should be able to see a navy rank mission. Once completed your rank will raise.
Lastly you need Fed rank to visit Sol.

Alliance doesn't have ranks, only reputation.

Yes, you need to get to the rank of Petty Officer with the Federation to get your Sol permit. It's the 4th ranks of 14 so it doesn't take too long.

Remember that when you are taking missions, keep in mind the faction whose mission you are doing. If it is a faction mission, it'll have a symbol on the right side of the mission offering box. If you are hellbent on getting Sol unlocked and want access to the flying brick fleet, only accept and stack missions for the Fed. If you are determined to get into a sleek, shiny, white ship, concentrate on taking empire missions. Alliance... well, I dunno why you'd go alliance as there are no perks that I am aware of when doing their missions.

Seems a little unfair on the Alliance.
