Newcomer / Intro Ranking up Federation

Also the rank up missions take ages to appear. I am usually at least half way through the next rank before I get one. I want courier federal missions so have to wait for them. The problem is I am nearly there with the federal rank and will end up having to keep going for hours and hours just to get the rank up mission to rear admiral.

I am sure something has changed with this federation rank up method. I keep getting interdicted by attacking NPCs (not pirates but ships sent against me) amd I have lost 2 ships so far and several times I have been interdicted and then again straight afterwards. There are very few missions between Ochosi and Chapka and so I have to look at other systems too.

I have spent 400 million between the imperial rank up and so far on the federation one. Thats 400 MILLION and it has still taken over 20hours just on the fed rank up alone. I am drained from the experience of being on the look out for attackers as they are regular.

What a pavalova!
I find that when I have more than just a few of the same mission types the messages come through that enemies are inbound. If you can't be bothered fighting you will need to win the interdiction and then you should be fine for landing at a station in that system. There are normally multiple enemies and it will tell you how many in the updated mission details in your transactions panel. If you fight and win, the next enemy will interdict you, there are often 4, so unless you have the time, just win the first interdiction and land.

I have now done the work to get the promotion to Rear Admiral. However I have previously had to keep going way past the rank to get the rank up mission and I just dont fancy another 5 hours slogging this out. I am 100% Post Captain and so should get Rear Admiral at my next rank up. But I am thinking I can return to "normality" and avoid the grind because I can just keep playing now until I get the rank up mission on my travels during the course of my gameplay? I dont need to do these missions anymore? Please advise.

Edit: I had to wait ages for the post captain rank up and when it came I was already at 100% which means I could potentially have to grind the post captain rank for another 100% to get the rear admiral rank. This is painfully slow and could take 2 days on top of the 10 days I just spent on imperial and fed ranking up!

Yes, the rank up mission will just appear and you won't need to go anywhere near another 100% so just keep checking the mission boards in fed aligned systems.

Soooo close......I am at SOL and the courier federal mission just came up but I was not able to get it because It was locked. I donated cash but it didnt unlock so I exited and then went back in.....but then it had gone :-( Nearly there!

Ahhhhh at last!! I am now a rear admiral thanks to a cargo mission. The only issue with my master plan to stop grinding and just pick up the rank up mission elsewhere was that you need to be at a certain status with the faction offering the mission and I was locked out of all the missions coming up at the other factions except the one I donated cash to to get me friendly. Luckily this was the cargo mission so a few adjustments to my build and bingo bongo I am now a rear admiral (even though I dont need a corvette at the moment).

My God will this madness never end!!! I have been grinding this fed ranking all week and still have a bit more to do. I reckon it's had over 20 hours. I keep getting attacked by NPCs because of the mission I am on. I lost a ship this week doing this rank up for the first time since around March when I first started out (and picked on a police vessel).

I am having to take all the missions that I can regardless of faction. It means a lot of jumping around and coupled with the NPC attacks and the distances to some stations this is a very stressful adventure to get my Corvette (not to mention the time cost). But I will try and put the hours in this weekend and get my Corvette (which I dont need/want or have a use for - just want to know I could if I wanted it).
Not sure if it applies, but if your only interested at this time to rank up in the FEDERAL Navy, then first and foremost only accept data and or cargo missions from FEDERAL Broker's, thus becoming allied with them and the station in both systems; Most utilize Sothis and Ceos.

Doing any missions for any other brokers will cause you to have to do additional missions for the FEDERAL broker's. I realize it's tempting sometimes to take the missions offered by the other broker's, but in a sense the Federal broker's will treat you as someone who is moon lighting. And if you look at the progress indicator, you'll see one of two either blue or red triangles, they will either be pointing in an upward or downward direction. A down red can only become an up red after doing at least three missions in success and successfully from the fed. After which the red will point up, three more to cause it to turn blue down, three more to cause the blue to point up. And three more to eliminate it.

None of the missions of other broker's will attribute to your FED rank. The missions you do for the fed rank while those triangle are visible will, but you won't see the credit until they are gone. The actual rank mission will not be offered unless you are a 100 percent, the gauge only goes to 100, thus if you've accomplished more than that, they will show after competion of a NAVY rank mission.

Bottom line, the fastest way is at SOTHIS and CEOS; Must be allied with all of them; Only do missions for the FEDERAL Broker's; With the exception of doing some cargo missions on occasion if and when there isn't anything else going on; ONLY do data missions; Unless you have an exorbit amount of cr's to throw away, don't bother with donations, unless they are less than 100,000 and offer at least two ++'s.

The same exact thing works if and when you get around to ranking up in the Empire. Though the systems will be different.

Thanks for the reply. I am now a Duke (71%) and a Rear Admiral (48%).

It took around 10 days (2 days off so 8 actual game days) many hours a day for both and 450 million credits!! - no exaggeration - I have developed a nervous twitch from keeping an eye out for attackers all the time. I feel totally relieved that this grind is over. I now have access to all ships (until Fdev introduce new ones in Odyssey).

D2EA needs to remove the video about Chapka and Ochosi as it does not really work. You get attacked all the time and there are very few missions between them.

I flew to SOL as a reward for my efforts and I am having a good look around.

For anyone interested my actual numbers are: 34 hours of gametime over 7 days for federation rank up. Imperial was 3 days 15 hours gametime. So 49 hours total. 467 Million credits spent on ranking up both imperial and federation (300 Fed and 170 Imperial). I need a rest!! - feels good though.

I am sure there is a quicker, cheaper and better way to do this. Sothis-Ceos seems a likely candidate.

I was interdicted counteless times, attacked many times, lost 2 ships to attackers, had to choose other systems as there were not enough missions between Ochosi and Chapka and had to wait ages for federal courier missions.

D2EA calls it an "easy" way to fed rank up!!!!
