Rare Commodities List!

Deuringas checked all 3 stations, no truffles
But found coffee at Any Na- Libby Orbital, here's the pic:

Just done a few rare commodities runs and made millions in a Cobra. This is a bit silly!

What happens when you eventually get a Python or greater. Another player (or two or three) comes along and destroys your ship.
The insurance will be in the millions and without such methods of making money would render anything over a T6 something which people keep locked up in their docking bays.. Just like that extremely valuable sport's car.
Difference being, in the real world insurance is not a % of the value, in the game however it is, so there needs to be something to make it worth while taking out of the dock... it is after all, just a game!

I am not the type to want instant gratification, but I don't want it to take me 10 years to get a better ship either. I want to have fun, simple as that.

I am sorry to announce that there were no Snails in Ikurama.
I checked in both station (BlAAUW CITY and CROSSFIELD ORBITAL).

No rare commodities.

My guess is that the list of rare commodities where by mistake put on the client side but they may be activated (turned on/off) by FD on the server side.
Some may be not be unlocked... yet.

Although I am checkin the list I hope that they hide the list in the future because it breaks a little the immersion in the universe. I would prefer for FD to unlock rare commodities with in-game story events similar to the eranin conflict during Beta. Galnet would be a really good tool to warn pilots of new up trending rare commodities. A great way to have players congregate at some locations (the universe is soooo big).

Cheers!

Well these were duds at least:
Coquim
HIP 118311
Utgaroar

No rare items as far as I can tell in those systems.

Really enjoying this. It has given me a new lease of life for this game. Hope ED keep it as it is so much fun traveling around and getting paid FAIRLY!!!! for our efforts.

I am not sure but I feel as though the Devs gave us something here. Good call I say :)

EDIT: uh... [] with CODE inside doesn't work to make forum code for table visible... anyone know how to do this?

Try it with NOPARSE tags :)

I'd suggest including which faction runs the sector/station :) maybe also the type of economy.

I went through the file on linux using the "strings" utility and filtering away many of the strings that aren't interesting (basically anything with an _). Some locations DO check out. I went to Jarua and found Jaroua Rice and then went to Njangari Saddles, see screenshot.
View attachment 3724View attachment 3729

The following strings are further possible hits. I might have missed some, too. But if these are all positives, then there's a LOT more of those rares than previously known. Try to check some of those out. String as it appears in file - possible System.

For Jaroua, it's Mccool City with Jaroua Rice
Njangari, there's only one station, Lee Hub with ... Saddles

Quechua didn't have anything when I visited.

Sounds like that might be something other than a rare commodity...

I wonder if they are looking at introducing other trading options, special delivery missions for rare animals?

Not a fan of looking through files, that's taking things much too far. Always a few who have to just be silly and take it to an extreme, rather than how it is intended to be played.

Someone will do it. Better to do it now, let FD know about the exploit, and if they want to then they can fix it. Of course once the data's out there, they have to either live with the data being leaked, or re-write it all. This should have been encrypted, even though any local encryption can always be cracked it would at least slow down the process.

I'm still hoping that they will replace most of the hard-coded "rare" goods with randomly generated ones. The generated system descriptions (edible poets, etc.) in Elite were hilarious, I'd love to see that come back in the guise of generated goods descriptions.

Wohoo, nice work....

So I cannot go and check more out until late today, but I just did do another filter pass on that file and reduced the 5000 lines by removing stuff that cannot be anything meaningful down to 207 surviving lines. So the following in the spoiler tag is a heavy filtered and sorted list of strings that may or may not contain further locations.

Put in spoiler tag, as it's a long raw list and not everyone is interested in it

What happens when you eventually get a Python or greater. Another player (or two or three) comes along and destroys your ship.

Is that what happens? Unlikely. And it's only a problem if you make two mistakes: 1. you buy a new ship as soon as you can and don't keep hold of your previous ship just in case, and 2. you spend all your cash on cargo. If you avoid those two stupid mistakes, then you're fine. You can take the loss of your ship and cargo, and be financially back on your feet in a single evening's play.

I am not the type to want instant gratification, but I don't want it to take me 10 years to get a better ship either. I want to have fun, simple as that.

I'm saying that "3 days to get a better ship" is too fast. You say "10 years to get a better ship" is too slow. Maybe it's possible for the answer to lie somewhere in between.

Depends on the ship.

I really liked the progression rate in Elite before I discovered rare trading. It was about 2 hours to a Hauler, then about 5 hours to a Cobra.

From there it was 1 evening checking out rare routes, 2 hours to full kitted Cobra, 2 hours to Lakon, 1 hour to perfectly kitted Lakon, 2 hours to Asp.
That did not feel right.

And Frontier are not doing themselves a favor by allowing such a fast progression. Because the shortcomings on the content front become more apparent the sooner people fly around in Pythons, Lakon 9s and Anacondas. Like... buying an Orca and not having passengers...

In early WoW I took 312 hours to maxlevel (60). That was with a lot of idling, looking around, exploring... no powergaming. And it was just about right.
It doesn't matter if the Asp is 30 hours away, as long as you can have fun on the way.

As it is right now, I am more concerned about the fun part than about the credits part.

I do not agree that this is some kind of personal difference, I'm sure Frontier expected players to share, I do not believe at all they expected players to go looking through files in Linux for code references. I think anyone with a bit of common sense and integrity can see that.

It's one thing to politely express a difference of opinion and quite another to accuse someone of having a lack of common sense and integrity. You yourself suggested a few pages back that another poster was borderline trolling, but taking your contributions in this thread as a whole I think that label best applies to you (note for example, your first postas where you casually dismiss another post as 'thoughtless'). Now, I don't like casually applying labels like that to people so I just ask you; do you think your tone is really appropriate for this particular forum (recent controversies aside)? This isn't life and death, it isn't even a competition; it's just a game.

Yeah I don't expecte those rare commodities to continue to work how they do currently. While they are nice and the flavor text range from silly to hilarious, they just are too good. I mean, I worked myself up to about 6 mio cr until I first seen one of them, thanks to this very thread. And I like to hunt the remaining ones now. But once you've found them, why would you ever trade anything else but these? They basically make all other commodities useless for trading once you can do one of these shipments and make 500K or more in 15 minutes. My record is 1.6M in a single transaction right now, thanks to these. Prior to them, it was 160K or so in a 96T type6.

So something that limits availability such that you can do it only once per week, or they only have a percentage to spawn each day, etc. to limit availability is something that should be happening I think. Otherwise as I said, why would I ever trade anything else than rares? And that makes them not-rare in effect but not in name.

It would be useful to have the major faction of the station where the commodities are on the list too. The amount of business you can potentially do at each station can have an effect on your major faction standings and some people like to do things only for the Empire (for example). Since the faction increases are seemingly so small for the major factions through normal trading, rare trading could be seen as a good way to get a larger hit on the faction you want as well as being financially worthwhile and fun :)

So as a question are these spread throughout inhabited space (albeit rarely)? I'm out in the sticks and I have yet to come across one so wondering if it is worth still looking or do I need to head into the inhabited systems to pick one up?

They are spread out all over the place.
I think most of them are named Agricultural systems.
Since Agri systems aren't your number one spot for profitable trading, they can get overlooked rather easily.
