So I just made my way to the Duval Empire system. Would anyone happen to be able to explain rare commodity trading and maybe even possibly let me in on a few routes in the empire region?

What are considered rare commodities I don't even think I've come across any that I've noticed in my travels so far
Yellow in Commodity list and only at certain stations in limited numbers.

To get a glance of where to buy/sell what try the eliteraretrader. Its a co.uk website where you can plan your route and tailor it to your needs.

Try here http://elitetradingtool.co.uk/ and click rares - type in your location and it'll give you a rough idea what's out there and how far it is away from you
The further you travel from the purchase point, the higher the price will be when you sell it. you just need to find a system that will buy it
I just travel about 150-160ly and check in at a few systems to see if it appears in the commodity list. Once it does rinse and repeat.
There are a few good trade runs around, but I've never done one myself
Does this trading tool also work for xbox one? I knew there was a few out on pc but wasn't sure if the commodities were priced the same on both.
Yeah, good question - and I don't actually know, although given we all fly in the same Galaxy, I think it's reasonable to assume these prices are the same for everyone. Be aware though, the prices in Thrudds are uploaded by users, so there can be lag if the price changes rapidly. I find it's a great indicator and then I go and check my self

Correct, just like matching buy and sell economies - you find a station that wants that rare - usually it's a certain economy type and once found they'll always buy it, but the price may vary
No, any station as long as the type of good is legal will take the rare, all systems want them. The price is determined by distance from orgin station not the normal supply and demand rules. I have done rare trading on both pc and xbox. I normally do lave area to witchhaul, pretty easy run.
You can only get a certain amount of each rare as well.

The one at LTT 9360 is even further at 1872412.
Be sure to check those distances before going in!
I've not delivered them elsewhere yet, but when refuelling at 56 ly out, there was basically no difference in the prices paid for them. I'm hoping the price shots up at 150 lys, otherwise I'll have to wait until I have a ship that can carry a big payload!

The distance from lave to witchhaul is approx 150ly. I did my fist xbox rare runs in a sidey carrying 8 tons of rares. One leg netted me about 150k profit.
If you do a google image search for "elite dangerous rare trade routes" there's a couple of really good graphics explaining where to buy and sell and I have so far noticed no difference between the xbox and pc versions.

Anywhere over 120lyrs gives very good profit, 160-200lyrs being the best any further doesn't increase the price any.
Being as they are only allocated in small amounts with the maximum available usually between 10-20 (some cases 1) a large ship isn't the best thing. The hauler with its its long jump worked well and quickly earnt to enough to kit out a cobra, now in an A-rated asp working the CGs while running this route.

Have found out the hard way the pc and xbox market prices and supply/demand are not linked yet you may find routes that dried up weeks ago on the pc / trade tools are going strong on the xbox ! ><
Rare commodities only spawn at certain stations and in certain amounts. They take approximately 12-15 minutes to respawn and you can only carry x amount. You'll want to grab as many as you can then sell them all at a station that is at least 125Ly away from the closest station in the route.
This is the rare route I run. Each station is only 1 jump from each other. I start with Leesti and end with Leesti because two rares spawn there. I then take everything to the Yu Di Yi system as they seem to have every upgrade and 15 ships in there yard. Yu Di Yi is ~165Ly away from Leesti and I get on average 15-16K credits a ton in profit.
