General / Off-Topic RCTWorld General Discussion

I found myself on the steam forums for RCTW yesterday, and it was filled with fanboys, saying stuff like PC looks ugly and dated, has inferior gameplay, etc, as well as ignoring obvious flaws. [wacky]

I saw some people being rational, but let's say I don't plan going back there.

Guess what. Yesterday I found out that they blocked my account on their forum because I said that the first beta was horrible.

99% of the steam forums is occupied by the rational deprived. I've seen such blatantly blind fanboyism on the steamforums of various games and it has shown a thing that's here to stay sadly. Hope you are cured now :p

I think the stream is just, well you decide. Here are the 4 reasons for me having my comments removed in the live chat...

They also removed someone's comment for saying "Hello".

I think perhaps that was an auto ban due to an overzealous bot.

I expect Atari have added a derogative term a racist might use to their banned words list. Unfortunately that means any time someone mentions the full name of their game (or as in your case have the word "tycoon" in their nickname) they get a timeout for their trouble.

You get that with cockfosters, scunthorpe and other place names on a lot of forums.

Edit: some of the names after a quick search are awesome. http://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/2014/07/22/rude-british-place-names_n_5608847.html

Really OT now but this cracked me up

Even more OT (I will stop now I promise)

Do you remember when Atari included the word 'gay' in their forum filter? That was a PR nightmare lol. Who would have guessed in 2016 some of the 10m+ fans of the previous game might have been gay? This is a company seriously stuck in 1994.

In the end Mattlab Pm'd me to apologize for any offense I might have been caused and to re-assure me that I was welcome to use the forums. Which was nice, but I had to point out I wasn't gay - and that my objections came down to not being a fascist, not that I was gay myself.

I get that they probably just used the standard forum platform filters, but that doesn't get them off the hook - it just means they were too lazy to check what is was they would be blocking.

Wow. The more screenshots I see, the more they depress me. That crappy one with the backs of all the service buildings at night made my eyes bleed, it was so bad. What made me laugh was how some people on the Atari forums were still saying it looked great when it looked no way near as good as what we regularly see in RCT3, a game 14 years old. I just find the whole business really sad. It really is a shame. Things could have been so different.
I just haven't felt inspired to post over there for weeks. It's like banging your head against a wall over there. Objectivity and reason just seems to fall on deaf ears. I just wish people would forget that it's got the name of Rollercoaster Tycoon and judge what they see on it's own merits.
Deuce buddy, I don't know how you have the energy to put the effort in by trying to get some levity over there. But kudos to you mate. I think it would be a bigger mess without you.

Thanks Nemmie,

To be honest, I'm only motivated because I suspect a lot of the guys over there that get so defensive are probably quite young and really are captivated by the Atari and RCT badges. But they're also handing over their hard earned money. I'm not cool with that at all. I wouldn't mind if the younger crowd had come to their own conclusions and decided the game looked great - but the reality is Atari have sold it to people as AAA, and that is just not true. 'AAA' may not be precisely defined, but whatever it is, RCTW is not AAA. Wow, not even close!

That said, I'm also keeping my nose in to watch the weekly drama's unfold. That game is like no other I have ever seen. Not only is it a complete failure in what they set out to make - it's now basically irrelevant in the face of Planet Coaster. Yet still, the continues to flow. It's like watching a bad soap opera, I hate myself for watching... I can't stop though!!

Deuce, I love reading your posts here and over there. You say it how it is and that is exactly how it should be. People are clinging to this name 'RCT' and it is so sad.

LMAO [cry] I don't understand how they can be so out of touch with modern society.

It's even more ironic when they just released a game called Pridefest...I just don't get it.

In Matty's defense, he's a nice enough guy.

But the guys running the show at Atari, they're businessmen - and they have zero understanding of the way the world works in the digital age. They're all old school guys that think if you say something is amazing and put together some fancy box art, it'll fly off the shelves. But there are no shelves anymore, and people don't look at box art - they look at YouTube play-test reviews of games, and steam reviews. The whole PR force-field they have constructed will come down the moment the game is exposed to the paying public and the gaming press.

Literally everything Atari are doing right now is just to delay that dreadful moment when the entire world, fanboys included, finally see the state of the game. It will not be a good day (except for me, I'm planning to get drunk and streak through the quad - laughing all the way).

I keep looking in over there, just to read what's been said, it's better than reading a comic lol. I don't get involved as I'm not even registered, but you would be surprised how many really stick up for the game and soon get annoyed if the trolls post anything.
