Re: Fuel Scooping

{nod} yeah, there'll be a balance point somewhere, but I personally prefer to dip in and out as fast as possible. Concentrating on other things while scooping is...unwise, in my opinion.
i dont think you quite understood. when you enter a system drop to 0 straight away. hit that X... aim your ship at the star and move slowly forward you scoop will activate - once you reach your desired scoop rate you hit X again.. you are now motionless and scooping.. you can now plot routes etc without worrying about burning up.. fuel scooping takes time if your on a low scoop rate - why spend that time trying not to burn up when you can do this method. i will use this method from now on, unless i get a massive fuel scoop that can do it in a blink of an eye.. but thats a way off. i cant justify the price of the biggest scoop.

ok granted not motionless.. but more motionless than hurtling towards your death. at 30m/s it would take a million years to enter the corona and die
Your call, obviously. Personally I prefer to treat stars as great huge shiny murder balls, and to keep my eye on them (and my instruments) at all times.

(sorry, re-reading this it comes over as snarky - not my intent, I assure you)

I use this when entering a system I haven't explored yet.

Move your ship "on top" of the star. (Means, Zenith or Nadir of the star.) Stop at a comfortable range, scan away. By moving to that position first, it rarely happens that the star blocks line of sight to any bodies in the system. When done scanning, your fuel is topped and you are ready to go.

When not scanning, the "scoop while rushing around the star" is the more time efficient option, though.

But my next jump target is on the other side of the star and I have hundreds more to do. Of course I'm going to scoop as I fly around it. 7a scoop will get the job done in about 3 seconds then I let the ship temp drop a bit as I line up with the target and jump again.

The trip to Beagle Point and back is going to be a lot of that.

Dammit, this Commander seems to think three dimensionally!!
ps. nice.
pps. Khaaaaaaaan!

I tend to go 'around' the star myself. Not any more I think .. going 'over the top' for perspective on the orbital plane starting now.
In reality that's actually going to be under the star, only because I don't fly Lakon. Star dive!
