Re: Neutron Star Jumping

I've only used neutron stars a few times to check it out, but yesterday I tried a white dwarf multiple times. It's actually not that difficult or dangerous. Whereas the NS will eat 1% of your FSD a WD seems a little more greedy taking 2% it seems. Apart from that I didn't see much difference except for the lower boost of the jump range. Maybe the WD scare is hyped a little bit? Like the fright of getting caught with illegal cargo making people boost into a station smashing it into a wall or a fellow CMDR to avoid getting a stupid fine?

It often depends on the size of the exclusion zone, some are little different from NS whilst others have barely any of their cones poking out of the exclusion zone. I think much of the ‘danger’ comes from explorer’s tales, when you’re 10’000lys from any station hull damage is far more of an issue. Certainly if it leaves you in danger of not being able to land on a planet to restock any materials you may need in order to get home.

All in all though the process is remarkably easy so long as you’re aware of what you’re doing, and not dozing off....waking up with a face full of Neutron Star (especially in VR) is.....interesting :)

I see you mention VR. I'm also using VR, which is one of my main reasons for not using the neutron highway since all the headset off/on during copy paste from a browser frustrates me. Do you use the galaxy map?

Edit: I forgot to ask. Do you have to route plan before you supercharge or can you do it after (GalMap) ? I know the answer is somewhere here but I haven't found it yet and I'm impatient.
You can plot your route at any point, before or after the neutron boost charging of your FSD.

It's a simple task, just pray FDEV have 100% fixed an old bug (LOL, fixed... yeah right), where occasionally when jumping to a Neutron star system with the Neutron as the Primary star, you'd be thrown right into the jet cone out of hyperspace and facing the star... lot's of fun there.

I’m like you and don’t use the Highway all that much. I’m happy to take a bit longer to get there and stay in VR. I’ve no gripes with that as it’s a 3rd party thing but I do get a bit tired of VR and the Orrery map. It’s so useful when exploring but in VR, with two stars very far apart with orbiting bodies, it can take so long to move my cursor all that way and then get the various axes right so the cursor doesn’t miss my intended target by a gazillion light years. Maybe I need to look at my bindings in a bit more detail :)

If I really want to get to my far off destination quickly then I’ll just go flatscreen and use the Highway. If all I’m doing is jumping and boosting I may as well watch something on my other pc, read the forums and generally pass the time during the journey.

Rules
  1. Equip a fuel scoop
  2. DO NOT drop out supercruise in jet stream
    i.e.
    • DO NOT go into yellow circle
    • DO NOT press j in it
    • DO NOT repair your FSD in it
  3. Turn your back to the star and align with jet stream direction in the stream
  4. Equip a AFMU, and repair the fsd FAR AWAY FROM JET STREAM (before go in or after the jump)

Here's a diagram that shows how to do a neutron star jump:

And here's the link to it:
