Yeah, I understand. And the answer there is CoR, plus a possibly long and completely unsafe friend list.
Probably mostly true. I think that the outcome was mostly about HP being on Salomé's friend list, and CoR being under-equipped (three defenders wasn't enough given instancing problems). But PAC's mistakes probably had some impact.
To be clear, I'm embarrassingly clueless about most BGS-related stuff. I just like flying around in spaceships.
I'm more interested in the way this went down from a real-world POV.
Fundamentally, I would have thought that the protagonists should have just had each other in their friend list and then everything else should have simply been luck of the draw.
As it was, it seems like various people couldn't resist a "jobs for the boys" attitude which created the pathway to what happened.
And, in the mean-time, heaps of people who weren't "properly connected" just wasted their time.
And, as you say, for those who are invested in the BGS it must be rather frustrating to have the outcome decided on the basis of "the lulz" rather than due to any sincere effort.
