Reaching breaking point and getting very dispirited

They used to be mission rewards. Isn't that the case anymore?
Still are. That's how I stock my fleet carrier. Mine is open to all btw, but they disappear faster than I put them in. Hard to believe there are so many players still doing the Marco req after so many years.

I'm not sure I'm reading this correctly. You are posting that you are quitting the game because requisitioning some modular terminals for an engineer requires an hour of game play?

And you are a founder? If we were playing poker I would push my chips all in at this point and call that bet.
Well in this case OP is an account with a 2014 forum join date, and a posting history consisting of popping up every couple of years to say they've been away for a while and ask some questions. So this seems like the rare case where it might actually be true!

Ok so I lost the bet, point still stands it's extremely easy to acquire the items for Marco.

There are so many possibilities to cheat in this game! One is Fox's Step by Step Guide to Unlock Engineers Quickly. If you really want to cheat, use that guide. You find it using Google.

I rather disagree, but your idea of "extremely easy" may differ to mine.

If you use external resources (INARA, EDDB et al) it's still no obvious where to get the missions where the rewards are Modular terminals - and you need a ship with enough capacity to have passengers (because most missions seem to be passenger missions) as well as cargo.

I personally don't like using external resources so avoid it as much as possible - but I had to when I wanted to unlock the engineer because the in game information is simply insufficient.

And flying around randomly hoping to find a mission with the right reward is now, well, rewarding!

It took me a few hours to find a station giving missions with the right rewards - pretty much flying from station to station and keeping my fingers crossed.

Settle in a system (i used an Industrial one) do some missions, get rep+++ reward to get some rep and keep an eye for modular terminals reward.
They will pop usually sooner than later
Is it modular terminals that are exclusive to passenger missions?

Is it modular terminals that are exclusive to passenger missions?
Nope, they're not (The only passenger missions i do are Robigo)

But i got modular terminals from normal supply/delivery missions. And i think i've seen them as reward for some massacre missions too.

Or stick a thread up asking for MT and Im sure some FC owner will be in touch....agree its bloody annoying you cant tell who has 'Open' access to FC and who has 'limited' of any description until you drop out of SC but thats just one of many QOL filters Id like to see added....

Overall, take a break, play something else for a bit, the call to come back will happen sooner or later or youll be happy playing something else so you win either way :)

strange I see them as possible rewards in the mission boards all the time
being in a hurry in this game is ill advised basically, sometimes I break from play for a few weeks.

Genuinely believe this game is hardwired in favour of those who want to. Bit hard. Curves a monster. But l want to. I really do. Flight model combat etc for me personally stoked up to do whatever hoop jumping grinding powerlevelling chore elite throws at me.
Modular terminals...yup got em. Course l have.

...

It sounds like you're trying to discover Marcos Qwent. He is admittedly the most useless engineer but you have to go through him to get to the good stuff.

...
My view on Qwent is that he isn't as useless as he initially seems (what!!!!I hear you cry!!!!... This Terekhov guy is crazy!)... Initially, for sure, his usefulness is more the stepping stone to other engineers, but later in the game, I actually find him really useful for applying experimental effects to modules that I've remote engineered (Terekhov tends to return to near middle of the bubble when has no reason to be elsewhere). Qwent's lower rank doesn't affect his ability to apply experimentals relevant to his specialities.

Other relevant comments:
Modular terminals are officially availble from mission rewards. Thre are some such missions in the middle of the bubble (these are not necessarily passenger missions) but they can take a while to come around. You will find them more readily in passenger missions at Robigo, but that's a long way off.
Yes you can part deliver MTs to Qwent if you don't get the 25 in one go.
Don't trust Inara with anything to do with FCs - it only knows what its seen when players who have docked at the carrier and uploaded data to Inara. An incomplete story for stations, and far worse for volatile FC data,.

if you have been playing as long as you say, you ought to know fleet carriers are player stations...they are rarely buying or selling anything for anyones good but themselves and are a common trap.
there are no support pages externally that are a part of the game, eddb and inara are created and supported by players not by frontier.
otherwise, not abnormal to not know other basic things, or rather things that some consider basic, such as every in-game item or commodity has a market as well as at least 1 or more places said item can be collected.
common for rare items needed for engineers is mission rewards..old news and big in the forums since engineers were introduced.
then the usual various planetary and space sites for some materials. and material traders.
more to my point, if it is something that you think you can buy or sell or otherwise trade, look for its market.
in this case, if you really had no idea that missions are offering rewards that are vital to engineering, and if you have not paid any attention to any markets, then by all means use an outside source, and search to sell them, and in this case you will find Modular Terminals are wanted by many stations.
Had you paid attention to markets, or at least have a decent trade rank that you maybe earned you might already be aware of many stations nearby that want them.
That part said, go to such a station(Hint: hi tech, scientific) look in the sell section and you will see mod terminals there...defined by the game. clearly stating mission rewards.

To be blunt about the first part, anyone that thinks FC's are good trading posts for anyone but the owner and that all players are friendly and honest good citizens...isn't awake.
remove FC's from your searches on inara and eddb, you will waste less time and fewer disappointments.

I don't know what rank you have earned, but as it is common to rise in credits and rank and still know next to nothing...the game is far more complex than most seem to think.
and if you research things you will actually earn the ranks you get.
in trade knowing or not knowing how the market works can be the difference between delivering 6000t of gold for 6mi
or mining 150t gold for 50mil

Well, I already said my FC is open to all and I stock MTs. It's even one of the ones on the inara link in this thread that OP claims you can't dock at. :p

Most days I manage to find a bit more than 100 but they're gone by the next time I play tho.

You have to realize Fleet Carriers are all player-owned and to never rely on any of them for anything ever. Always check docking privileges and if they allow refuel and rearm.
