Really unrealistic but

If we ever got an extinct animal dlc, which I doubt we would, my dream would be to have some of the giant bugs from the carboniferous era and trilobites from the Ordovician. Having an Arthropleura (giant, herbivorous centipedes) exhibit species has been my dream for a while. And if Frontier ever did implement flight in the game Meganeura (giant dragonfly-like insects) species would be so cool to have as well! Morganucodontids (shrew-like early mammals/pre mammals) would make a nice exhibit species also. And now with the aquatic dlc Isotelus rex, the largest known trilobite, seems perfect as a small aquatic habitat species given its length of a little over 2 feet. Dinosaurs and giant mammals are cool, but I think it would be great to see giant arthropods in more media in general but especially zoo games. Does anyone else have some unusual extinct animals they'd love to see in planet zoo or another game?
I put descriptions in parentheses to hopefully save some people some google searches, especially because a lot of these I know of but wouldn't have been able to recognize by genus/species name.

@agapomis I imagine this is something that might eventually appear in Prehistoric Kingdom. If you haven't heard of it, I suggest checking it out. It hasn't been released yet and is an Indie-game but it basically looks like Planet Zoo but for extinct animals (dinosaurs and Ice Age animals both). Once it's off the ground and the developers start looking at doing DLC, the kinds of animals you're talking about could be likely contenders.

We would need special Enclosures with more Oxygen to keep those Insects. I love all extinct Animals but for Planet Zoo I would prefer them to focus on Animals that went extinct during historic Times and a few Pleistocene Species.

I think they did at least consider adding giant Invertebrates to Prehistoric Kingdom but I don't know if we will really get them in the Game. Maybe in a DLC if they won't be in the Base Game

I'm really excited for prehistoric kingdom and I've been watching it for a few years now! I'm really hoping they'll show up there. I just love bugs and like seeing them in a lot of games.

I did say unrealistic for a reason lol. I figured it would work something like the water temperature regulator if it was ever put in the game, which I know it won't be.

Bugs are definitely underrated. One of my top requests is for the African giant millipede - saw them for the first time at Wellington Zoo here in NZ and fell in love with them. I also got to handle spiny stick insects at Edinburgh Zoo in Scotland, that was a treat. The era you're talking about in paleohistory is certainly one of my favourites, too. Spiders as big as cats would be a neat thing to see.

Factually speaking, we'd need special enclosures with more oxygen to keep most any prehistoric animal beyond the most recent ones... while it's fun to think the world hasn't changed much in the past 300 million years or so, the fact remains even during the time of the dinosaurs the environmental conditions of the Earth were much different than they were today...

I must admit, I now want an "unseen" function in my life, after googeling what indoraptor suggested.

I agree that PK is probably your go to game. I mean, I'm sure it will be a great game and I'm looking forward to it myself. But I'm afraid I will never be noble enough to include insects that are big enough to ride on them... ;)

PZ is following a more non-extinct animal approach and I'm thankful for that. A lot of players voiced that they'd like to keep it that way, so I don't see a very high chance of extinct animals being added to PZ.

They can adapt to today's environment. The environment is still supportive of carbon based lifeforms as it was then. In a scenario where we did reintroduce them they may do just fine since we are not time traveling them, but recreating them now.

Spiny Leaf Insects, Darwin's Beetles, Camel Spider and many other peculiar invertebrates are worthy of this game, especially species which were in Zoo Tycoon, Zoo Tycoon 2 and Frontier's Zoo Tycoon Ultimate Animal Collection should all be in this game but preferably with only 1 or 2 or 3 representatives of particular species Frontier did for ZTUAC

High oxygen saturation in the atmosphere is what allowed these giant arthorpods to flourish in the first place. As oxygen saturation began to drop, the bugs stopped growing so big allowing other animals to claim their dominance. The way invertebrates breathe isn't efficient enough to allow for greater sizes in the modern world - they don't have lungs.

I'd also be so happy to see giant spore forming plants too. Calamites or even horsetails (even though I've been focusing on extinct species so far). It would be really cool if some horsetails had been added in the aquatic pack now that I'm thinking about it!
Also a bit off topic but sea pigs would be so cool to have as an exhibit species.

If there's a game that would do this - best chances are with PK.
And i think those chances are slim, enough dinos and other era extinct animals to pick from. I think that community would follow a similar approach - they would highly prefer extinct mammals/dinos before currently living animals and/or extinct insects.

We'll just wait and see, wouldn't be surprised if some promised features will be added 2-3 years releasing as an early-access title. To me, the most interesting part would be the difference in using the Unity Game Engine compared to the Cobra Engine from Frontier.

Yeah, that's why I put really unrealistic in the thread title and said I doubt we'd get an extinct animal dlc. I just think it would be really cool to see these animals with the planet zoo art style and it's something that would make me personally really happy!

Also if it makes you feel better, the giant centipedes were herbivores! Totally get it if it's a phobia though.

Thankfully not a phobia. I have a wasp phobia, though ^^ So any game that would have giant wasps would not be on my list.

Really, the prehistoric kingdom art style isn't too far away from PZ. Actually, sometimes even a little too close. I think these would really fit better over there, since PZ has a (sometimes too extrem) conservation message behind it and there is not much we could do for extinct species IRL anymore ;)
