recharge time for big shields - is it too long?

So if elite shipyard is to be believed an A7 power distributor regens sys capacitor at a rate of +4 MJ/s.
im not sure why you can route more power to the capacitor but not draw from it any faster from a realistic perspective.
shoddy wiring on one end?
the zero to 50% recharge rate indicates that whatever is distributing that power in the form of a shield can handle that amount of output.
i really can't come up with a reason why recharge rate wouldn't correspond with how many pips to sys or rating of power distributor, in or out of game.

The capacitor is a buffer; many things in real life have unequal operation rates that have to work with each other, buffers are used to solve this.

(Not that I think 1 MW regeneration makes sense for all the shield generators - you would expect more powerful shield generators to have a stronger regeneration rate, otherwise aren't they just effectively shield boosters with another name?)

They are. (in a way)

Your ship has a set 'shield value' and the generator you use merely modifies this. Hence a Clipper A7 shield is weaker than a Vulture D5 and it isn't just due to the different hull mass values.

10 minutes... too long indeed. maybe 5 or 3. but then u can just boost out to supercruise and back in again u get full shield

Shield recharge times should be more along the lines of an uh... inverse geometric scale, in my opinion.

The very first levels of shield should be fairly quickly to come online, with the last 10% taking the very longest to refill.

So you could conceivably be back up with a single ring after a few minutes, but might only have a truly FULL shield after a half-hour or so (for the heaviest ships.)

How about improved shield recharging if:-

A. Hardpoints Retracted
B. Damage not been received for X seconds.

You could explain that the extra power that would have been used by the weapons is transferred to SYS to allow faster recharging, without hardpoint deployment being a factor that means any offensive ship that is in chase of another ship and is not taking damage could also be receiving a much quicker shield recharge which would ruin any sort of last stand chance or potential rescue from wing members.

Also until the SC recharge exploit is fixed it's difficult to even discuss this matter as it's too easy to jump out/in or face waiting 10 minutes for natural generation.

There's certainly something wrong with shields right now. Going from B5 to B6s and now B7s I can say that the difference is negligible. In fact my B5 shields seemed to last longer than B7s. Not worth spending the money on bigger shields, they just aren't good enough for 16 million (clipper)
