Recording Elite gameplay: Shadowplay a good bet?

That is Shadowplay.

It's somewhat confusing because, although the nvidia recording features are all bundled under that "Shadowplay" heading, the term "Shadowplay" is also specifically used to refer to nvidia's feature of being able to save the last 20mins of gameplay at any time at the press of a button. Like d8veh, I don't use that feature, prefering instead to use the manual start/stop recording option.

Thanks for the response guys. I posted a similar question elsewhere and got nothing.

This, and my recent thread about the 1050 Ti, is why I love you guys. So helpful. :)

Sounds odd, generally that happens when you are recording onto the same drive as you are actively using and it can't keep up?
The drive should be fine for that, it coped with DXtory :p My guess is that something in planet rendering doesn't cooperate all that well with capture under some conditions I couldn't nail down so far.

I was using shadowplay until I noticed it was causing a bit of microstuttering in Elite. If you don't have that issue then it's a fine bit of software.

Now tho I use OBS studio.

Hello! Haven't seen you in ages...

I don't really like Xbox DVR TBH. :/

Ah, but it's so easy, and me responding gives the chance to put this picture of how I think you look here it is:

That is all.

I use Loilo for all my recording needs.
You can read about it here: http://loilo.tv/us/product/game_recorder

For video editing, which I rarely do, unless I really feel a need for a production-quality video, which I generally don't for game play videos, I use Adobe Premiere - because if you can't do it with Premiere, it probably doesn't need to be done. Since I have no desire to contribute to the advertising industry, which ruins everything in comes in contact with, I keep my game video productions as simple as possible.

Film shorts and CG Productions are another matter entirely, but that matter isn't remotely related.

But use whatever you like - I found Shadowplay to be terrible and produced very choppy videos and don't use it myself.

I generally use "shadowplay" to record, as that is included in the
nvidia game experience suite, yet i would welcome to have the recording
software to differenciate between audio sources (game sound/microphone sound).

I heard obs is a good alternative which separates the audio tracks.
Shadowplay sadly just mixes all audio sources and creates a single audio track.
That leads to reconfiguring the game volume levels often.

As a tool to cut the video i use VDSC, it has a lot of
tools to work with and if you download necessary codecs,
can convert the vid to a multitude of formats.

I used to use FRAPS as it had the least performance hit on my old PC that i could find, Nvidias Shadowplay was better, doesn't matter so much now I have a much better rig but it works and its free so I continue to use it.

Haven't recorded anything for ages but you can see here its perfectly useable footage even with my old GTX960 2gig.

And I have the 4GB model. Excellent.

I made the linked video with a GTX 760 and 4GB of ram (Not the GFX card, but the whole computer!) the vocal audio was recorded with the video (USB MIC) using shadow play..

It's seriously outdated (the video and info) but as you can see you can get great results with Shadow play

It's really funny to look back at this 'Premium Beta' Video .. just to see how much the game has improved!
