General / Off-Topic Red Dead Redemption 2 - 4K and (Fake) HDR confirmed on PS4 Pro

Speaking of RDR2, how does this game compare to a game like Skyrim? Can I "have a life" outside of the main story, or am I on "rails" like Uncharted and Tomb Raider?

Skyrim remains a landmark game for me when it comes to "personal narrative" (other games like HZD never really matched it), so I'm always on the lookout for comparable games.

I've not played Skyrim but it's certainly an open world game. You have to partake in the story to open up some areas of the map usually.

No. No other franchise offers the TES experience. If you want TES, you have to play TES.

Red Dead Redemption 1 had a very nice multiplayer, where you could freely roam the whole map with fellow gunslingers and criminals and also enter various special instances, like racing, co-op, battles, saloon. It was nice. I don't know if it's still populated, maybe I should look at it once again...

In single player there was not that much to do beside the story. Although I didn't finish it and maybe there was more then I perceived. But story was really well done. I just didn't got to the end because I am not so much into shooting.

No, RDR and HZD are not RPGs basically. They are action adventures. I prefer Fallout to Skyrim RPG wise personally but each to their own. RDR will be first class story telling with what looks so far to be a technical marvel on the Pro, especially considering its a third party publisher.

Comparing apples with oranges from a game type point of view. Having said that I preferred the Witcher over Skyrim too.

About the only thing they have in common is 'open world'. RDR2 will have a main story on rails but will have open world free roam and side missions just like GTA and RDR.

Its going to be glorious in 4K and HDR even if its not full 4K on the Pro. First game ive Pre-ordered since Elite Dangerous.

Has anyone else noticed that every single AAA title released lately on PS4 touts TAA? I bring this up in reference of resolution, because TAA is how they can dynamically change resolution without the player noticing (unless you have eagle eyes like me). Just saying, cough cough Frontier, just saying.

I got my Stone Hatchet and Double-Action Revolver in GTA5 (first time I had played it for months) for RDR2 last night in preparation for RDR2. :)

Is this part of some pre-order bundle?

Nope, just do the GTA Online Challenges, (Maude's 5 bounty hunt missions and a treasure hunt for 3 clues, you then need to headshot 50 NPCs with the pistol and Hatchet 25 NPCs) both are not difficult to unlock or do, took me a couple of hours last night and I had not played GTA Online for 10 months so couldn't even remember the controls. :)

I recommend doing the 50 head shot and 25 hatchet challengers on the Pier Pressure mission in Solo as you can murder at will with no cops or players to worry about on the pier itself.

Both of the challenges appear in you inbox/sms a few minutes after login back into the game. I had to wait a few minutes for them to appear as I had not played in so long.

You can Google search the treasure hunt first clue location based on the photo you get sent and the rest is just easy enough in game to do as the bounty hunt and further clue locations appear on your map anyway.

Vanilla PS4 or Xbox One?

I have both PS4 & Xbox one but not sure which will run/look better I know HDR is confirmed for PS4, but haven't heard anything about HDR for Xbox

Digital Foundry did testing and like most games, RDR2 looks & performs better on PS4 than XBox one. However, XBox1X wins over all others (except PC of course). ED is one of the few games were PS4 seems to be at a disadvantage to XBox :(

That said, if you are sitting 10 feet away with a beer in your hand while playing, you'll never notice the difference - or so I am told :p

Vanilla consoles, its highly likely to be the PS4 which is the superior, so pick that if you want the better version. You could wait for a DF comparison if you can wait that long. Otherwise choose the version where you will have more friends.

Not quite sure if that's true, the Xbox One X of course is better than both the PS4 and PS4 Pro but from DF and mine and Wilfred's own comparisons on the Frontier Expo, the PS4 Pro in both Performance and Quality was better than the vanilla Xbox in terms of graphics and effects.

I'm not comparing PS4 Pro with "vanilla" XBox One, silly rabbit. Vanilla to Vanilla, and Pro to Pro (the XB1X).
