Red River Hog's interspecies bonus

Red River Hogs are very versatile creatures but I think Frontier should really make some changes about who they can live with.

1) Do NOT allow them to live with Chimpanzees. They are incredibly aggressive and are even known to prey on Red River Hog babies

2) Allow them to live with Nyalas and African Elephants

Just a few minor tweaks to make the game more realistic

They can already be kept with nyala and elephants, can’t they?.. they just don’t get an enrichment bonus (they probably should).

While I agree that they should not have an interspecies bonus with chimpanzees, I would say a >bonus< for living with nyala and elephant probably isn't necessary. A bonus would imply that a red river hog is happiest when mixed with either of the species, and both mixes are so rare that I'm sure that isn't the case.

I think the whole interspecies bonus idea is a bit whack, something that would definitely need tweaking in a future game (it's probably too much to change in the current game) - a lot of mixes are very dependent on the personalities of individual animals, so changing up how mixes work could go with animal personalities very well. Certainly would be better than implying that certain mixes that have ended pretty disastrously in real life (binturong with sun bear, chimps with anything, zebras with anything) will always work.

Yeah.. Just a few minutes ago I was looking at Interspecies Bonuses for a reply in another Thread and saw Chimps and RRH get a Bonus and I was like oh no... Bonobos are ok but not Chimps! Those things can even hunt Small Antelope and Monkeys... This decisions needs to be revised. Not saying Chimps should necessarily prey on Small Animals in the game, which could result in Traumatic things happening in Existing Builds, but at least the Bonus should be removed.

Binturong and Sun Bears can live together. There are zoos irl which do that. Chimpanzees are known to eat Red River Hogs as seen in the link above

I never said they didn't. However, a couple of examples have gone badly wrong - the first place that tried it (a zoo in France) had a binturong that started a fight with a sun bear, which ended with the binturong being killed and eaten. I believe Burgers Zoo in the Netherlands (the only place where I have seen this mix in person) no longer does it either, as the bears would bite the tails of the sleeping binturongs.

Don’t take stuff away. Keep the chimpanzee enrichment.

However, adding is always good. Seconding that statement.
so you actually prefer predator-prey bonuses? that's weird.. let's give zebras a lion bonus then..
also with bonus taken away you will still be able to keep them together, just won't have additional ten percent welfare

The point is that it is pointless to remove it again, now that it is already here.

I very much agree that it is weird this bonus showed up in the game to begin with, just like it is weird that they made anteaters walk-through animals and so on.
But the thing is that if you don't like it, then don't use it. If they removed it overnight you would not notice it, because it got 0 effect on the gameplay if you just ignore it. But it will affect the players who are using it. So why take that away from them, when it has 0 effect on how we realistic players play the game?

It seems like a waste of time trying to get Frontier to fix this when the game got other issues that can't just be ignored.

i find it misleading and annoying, i think it harms the game's rep and educational value
taking extra bonus away isn't going to remove anything from anybody's gameplay, its not like we are recommending chimps to kill hogs
they will still both get hundred percent welfare when placed together
i don't think its good enough an excuse to not fix issues with the game and make it better, i find this narrative to be forced and artificial.. its just not constructive
frontier listens to such feedback and fixes wrong social groups, biomes and other details, why not other social mechanics? and its something that can be fixed in a few seconds.. just removing one animal from the blueprint like you would drag an image from a folder or deleting a single line of code.
don't get me wrong but i don't find this approach sincere
the game is good but can always get better
we don't have to live with "earth is flat" just because it was once thought to be

Chimpanzees can be quite predatory in nature, despite plant material making the majority of their diet. I wouldn't suggest mixing anything with chimpanzees.

I wouldn't have been surprised nearly as much, if gorillas had a bonus with more species, great and small. It's actually surprising they are on the same level as chimps and bonobos. There's even a story of a gorilla that grew up with chimps and only learned to hunt other animals from them, causing issues with the mixed species gorilla exhibit in a zoo.

You can find the story here, as well as other attempts to keep chimps in mixed exhibits, which didn't end well for the other species, including carnivores like jackals:

Bonobos on the other hand are not nearly as aggressive and their vertebrate prey is usually smaller (even though small antelope are still listed as prey species), so maybe bonobos could still get a pass in the context of a zoo game. Still risky if you ask me, but I'm trying to find middle ground here.

To summarize, bonobo is a weak maybe, but western chimpanzee is an absolute no-no.
