Refund From Steam

I have invested 3,200 hours playing Elite Dangerous.
I love the game.
I pretty much play nothing else - it is a real part of my life!
I'm an introverted old git, so don't play socially, and I don't combat log, or even really use external sites to 'cheat'.
But I have amassed a fortune. (some 11 Billion Credits) and a fleet of ships, a fleet carrier etc. I'm triple Elite.

And today I requested a refund for Odyssey from Steam.

The straw that broke the camel's back?
I played for a couple of hours today, and I think I can honestly say that not one single thing I did didn't have some aspect broken!
At 20fps on planet. In the dark. With Geological features scanned but not showing up, with crash sites on every single landable planet (at least the atmospheric ones) that it is ludicrous.
With key bindings not saving, taking so long to back out of a system map that I could make a cup of tea and have time to toast a crumpet.
With graphical anomalies (have you SEEN neutron stars?) looking like something my grade 10 class has knocked up in a 40 minute lesson in MS Paint...

I tried - really really tried.

But it is broken. Completely and utterly broken.

And I think, now, it is entirely beyond repair.

I went to report the 'scan a planet, see geological signals, but can't actually find them anywhere' bug - only to find out it is in the "fixed" list.

Seriously I'm just ranting now. Sorry.

But I am out.

OF course I doubt I'll get a refund from Steam - these things are pretty hard to do, and I don't have the energy to fight it - but in the name of all that's holy, if you haven't bought Odyssey yet - DON'T DO IT. IT IS CRAP!

Honestly,

If I could go back in time I'd cancel my pre-order.

What we have is VERY broken, and NOT ANYWHERE near worth the price.

Sorry FDev, while I love FPS in Elite, it really appears you only provided half the content and failed to squish half the bugs.

I have Odyssey and find it great fun. Fine you are having issues, that doesn't mean that everyone will, so why don't you let them decide for themselves.

Quite the opposite, white knights are people who always show up when an OP says bad things about their favorite game. And the purpose of showing up is to devalue the OP's opinion, either by gaslighting (e.g. "No issues here, must be your PC etc.") or by pretending not to care. You see, if the same people show up again and again to say how much they don't care, it's because they actually care quite a lot. And that's why the term "white knight" is appropriate.

I have some frames per second issues, it drops to about 50fps when looking through glass, and the odd CTD (one every 2 hours or so).

That's about it at the moment. Flight model seems fine to me.

I didn't say the game was bug free, that would be a lie. But most of the bugs aren't affecting me currently, and most of them aren't game breaking either.

Where have you been since 5/19/21? Were you reading this forum, playing the game, or reading any gaming media, anywhere, regarding ED:O? You seem to have maybe missed.... something. A few things.

Just some FPS issues and a crash every so often eh.

I've been playing the game thanks.

And nope, haven't missed anything. I know others are having problems, and I feel for them, but it's obvious that not everyone is having problems.

The game isn't working for anyone, but some 30% are willing to put up with it for now. So am I, by the way, because I consider this an open beta. However, if things aren't fixed by the time EDO gets released on consoles, I predict you'll see the last remaining goodwill towards FDev fade away fast. Angry threads on this forum will then be the least of your concerns.

Funny, that, but I don't seem to be having most of these issues. I haven't come across any invisible rocks, not having any scarlet krait or orange sidewinder errors.

It seems very stable for me and extremely playable. Sure it has some issues, but none of them are getting in the way of me enjoying the expansion.

Most of your issues seem to be happening to you, others are not getting them.

In fairness, I've come across every single issue in their post, and plenty more. It's relentless.

Regarding the flight model, it's a subjective feeling that it's somehow different as soon as I played EDO, but can't put my finger on it so will leave that one as TBC until someone comes up with proper data.

but you dont know how many people its working good for. your argument is a swinging door we also dont no how many people its not working for ,but from steam reviews ,the issue tracker we can make an educated guess and say that at least 69% of steam users have issues with EDO that ruin the game experience

No I don't , and never said I did. Just like the people who say it's broken, they don't know who it isn't working for.

That's why I prefer to let people find out for themselves. Get the game, if it isn't working for them, get a refund.

I'm curious: Do you think you are helping FDev with your relentless attempts to shield them from criticism? Do you think the game's issues will go away if you just deny them hard enough? I would like to understand your reasoning here and what you are hoping to achieve. Because to me it seems counterproductive.
