Regretting your choices...

When I decided, on a whim, to go to SagA* without doing any crafting (cos it didn't exist then) or simply getting a decent ship for exploring.
I went in a Clipper. It had about 21LY jump range.
It took a while, but I looked good doing it 🙂
I know the feeling. I'm in an Orca with a 27.8 jump range (with some crafting, but not maxed out)

That'll explain it. And even if I had a surface scanner, sure as hell not gonna double, or triple this journey time by getting close enough to every damn planet so I can do a DSS on it. :D
I'm already looking at at least a week to get there and back, unless I take CMDR Rat Catcher up on his offer of transport home. Wouldn't take me nearly as long if I wasn't doing 100% FSS on my way through each system though.

OP, I did one of these missions probably 2 years ago and will never do one again. It was hard to keep going. Worst part was that I got all of the way back and was flying into the station and I got bumped by another ship about 1-2km from the slot and the passenger I was hauling bailed. Never again.

Damn, yea, that would suck, I plan to be stupidly careful on my way back in, passenger 1 doesn't want to get scanned on the way back, so that's gonna be interesting.

Actually, the thing I regret most about this journey I think... Is not equipping a bigger fuel scoop before setting off. I do alright for a while with what I scoop while scanning , but by the time I get to my last star and am forced to stop and fuel it takes a good 10 minutes or so to fully refuel without me going so close I overheat and die.

It was also pre-exploration buff, before the fss and you had to fly to a planet to scan it and the credits were probably 1/10th what you get now. I did get my first "first-discovered" ELW on that trip though.

You ever had that feeling where you decide to do something then, way before you're even half way through you regret having ever made that choice?

Yea. Me too. And it hit me aproximately 120 jumps into a 1300-1400+ jump round trip to escort a trio of explorers to distant places, with the overwhelming knowledge that the exploration data alone is likely to be worth several tens, if not hundred, of times more credits than the missions themself. Said data is about the only thing keeping me going presently, as I like exploration, I only potentially wish I was in a craft more suited for said function, and quite preferably with a higher jump range to reduce the previously mentioned oversized round trip somewhat. I will probably jump for joy when this section of the trip is sub-100. Though even then after reaching the final destination I'll likely hever around 500 - 600+ jumps left to reach the origin system of the missions for hand-in.

....and THEN they ask for 8 units of consumer goods to make the journey more comfortable! ;)

Can't seem to find a panel that will tell me the value of the data of my current scans. Only the estimated value of the recent systems, which I'd have to value up myself, which, considering I am 149 jumps in, I aint doing. :ROFLMAO:
If you run across a carrier in your journey, you can dock and use its UC module to get a readout on your current UCarto values, it will break it out by systems and as a total "page" of data. You need not actually sell the data, either, you can back out of the sale if you don't want to have a tithe taken.

I'm about 8K LY from the galactic core and I want to go and do all those new CG's that are coming along now.

I feel your pain mate.
Problem is, instead of wildly jumping through the systems to get to my destination I find I have to scan (surface scan no less) almost every stupid planet in almost every stupid system because I took a strange route so everything is virgin territory.

Highly unlikely to just happen across a carrier out here.

Yep, I'm pretty much unable to go through a system without scanning it, though depends entirely on what activity I'm currently engaged in. and a pretty large portion of what I'm going through right now is unexplored. I bump into the occasional flyby system where the main star has already got a name on it, but the rest of it doesn't, but have a hell of a lot of entirely unexplored stuff in my logs now. If EDD can is accurate got almost 72mil of data and 280 jumps until my next destination.

Much depends on where you are. While exploring in Elysian Shore, a region not much frequently visited except for certain nebulae and other obvious POIs, I ran across another carrier near one of the planetary nebulae that tends to draw visitors. Other "tourist spots" will increase the likelihood, given the large number of carriers now flitting about the galaxy. Since you are escorting explorers, it seemed you may be traveling to or near such systems at one time or another.

Exactly my point. When I get closer to my destination, sure, might bump into one or two, but out here, in the middle of nowhere, unlikely. :D
