Newcomer / Intro Reluctant to move on from Pilots federation beginner area

Hello all.
I'm a relatively new pilot with about 50 hours. I've started Elite dangerous (Horizons), deleted save and started again several times over the past few months. Now I think I've got the hang of it but only because I've decided to be a little more serious about the game and now because I have a proper flight stick....well, sufficient.

The time I've spent in the beginner area and the tutorials, I feel now that I'm confident in my own skills and have experienced enough to know the ins and outs, even just to a basic degree. However, I'm still reluctant to take on that mission that sends me outside of Pilots Federation District systems. I play solo, I'm now in an Adder that has the highest upgrades I could fit it with, I know the mining, dogfighting, trading and most of the mission board missions basics and I've just hit the million credit mark.

So, should I be moving on or should I hang around a bit longer? With the mission that sends me out into the big bad universe, there are several places I could end up, depending on which station I take that mission from, so I'm still unsure. Any suggestions? Should I make more money? Get rep up to max before I leave?

Thanks for any advice!

I felt a bit the same when I was in your shoes: purely because you can't return.

It's not that different on the outside though. You just got more things to see and do! First thing I did when I left? Plotted course to Deciat to acquire Enhanced Performance Thrusters and unlock Felicity Farseer. Then I, in my D rs Cobra, headed to the Pleiades on an economic plot. I think that was 65 jumps. I really learned how the FSS worked in that time!

Just get outa there and see the galaxy!
So far you're in the tadpole pond, and you really don't need to be in there for more than a day or two.
There is, however, one very important rule for whatever ship you fly:

Never fly without rebuy.

And best tripple that amount just to be sure.
Other then that, you're totally fine where ever you are in the galaxy.

Get a decent fuel scoop and pack your bags. :D
That fuel scoop is important.

Pick a random target and head out of the bubble for a bit (as far or as close as you feel comfortable with) scan and map some planets and see what you can see. When you get back and sell the data you will be pleasantly surprised at what it is worth.

There are certainly third party tools that can maximize this (road to riches) - feel free to plot a route that way should you choose.

My approach has been to just play - no rush to get credits or discoveries - and everything comes together.

Most importantly, have fun!

Nothing ventured, nothing gained
Nothing will ever feel the same
You've done your time, it's time to fly
Just ensure you've got re-buy
Venture forth to parts unknown
Perhaps you'll even find a home
There are things to see, and things to do
More than you'll see, if you stay where new
Get a scoop, and a map or two
A DSS, and good shields too
The Adder's fine, you've got the skills
Fly, now, fly, in search of thrills
Of data, credits and bounty kills
The time has come to spread your wings
In search of fun and Elite's best things

Try open. You may get ganked, but it's unlikely. Not forgetting the usual advice about rebuy and going solo in engineer systems like Deciat. This is advice will be questioned on the forum. That's fair.
Find a system which has a 5000 credits per unit or more return trade route using inara. Fly there and make a small fortune, play with some small to medium ships.

Leaving noob space comes to us all
In flying the nest, we all risk a fall
At the mercy of fortune, abide the odd mishap
But are you really sated with 'D' rated crap?!
Growth & adventure await you my <daughter, hermaphrodite offspring or> son (doesn't fit, but all PC bases covered)
Like piles of shi...ppable goods to be hauled by the ton.
If you choose to stay you'll only feel like a maggot
& Harry Potter will call you a f...ailure.

Wow! I'm a poet...& I didn't realise it.

If you had left that area after the first hour, you'd now be a multi billionaire driving a Federal Corvette with your sunglasses on and elbow out the window.

Did you take the advice? Fly in open and see what it's all about. Yes a ganker might get you, but you will have enough rebuy to start in a new ship. There is a lot for you to do out there, lots more youtube stuff to watch to learn how it's done. Maybe you will find a home for a while. If you stick to one system and become allied to one of the factions, your missions will become more profitable. You might even find a player faction you want to fly with.
Have you joined the GA (Galactic Academy)? it's on discord, there is a link right at the top of this page. There is loads of help and support there.

Fly safe and enjoy -- its amazing :)
