Remove Cobra Mk IV NPCs

That's why this is a request to keep that ship exclusive - yet to players who backed it only. NPCs flying it give new players a very sour taste when they are told that their hunt for "that nice looking ship the NPC fly" is pointless.

Especially when that ship is actually featured in Horizons trailer, giving really wrong impression.

I already pointed out that, unlike Coriolis or Farragut, Cobra Mk IV is an actual playable ship, which in my opinion should be restricted to the players only, given unique circumstances as reward for backing the Horizon content. I counted around 20-30 Cobra Mk IV NPCs in an hour, so there goes exclusivity and "rare" value.
You could say the same about paint jobs. There are lots of NPCs running about in ships, with paint jobs that players do not have access to.

But there's a major difference between paintjobs and Cobra Mk IV. The former are cosmetic and purely optional, and if certain paintjobs are used by NPCs only then they are not supposed to be used by players. Cobra Mk IV is the playable content... which is not obtainable in any way.

The problem is the fact NPCs are flying it, with game rubbing that fact "oh look how you can't buy that ship!" into new players' faces. Which does not add up well with the fact that Horizon trailer falsely advertises Cobra Mk IV as the upcoming content - what makes entire situation even worse.

When I see NPC's flying around in a Cobra-4, I think "Huh, isn't that supposed to be a some sort of limited edition ship?" The nobody NPCs kind of cheapen that aspect of it, but it's not an issue I really care about all that much.

Just fly a Cobra Mk III and blow up every Mk IV you see.

You'd hate being an Alliance pilot. Mk IVs every-bloody-where.

After reading after all these past threads about opening Cobra Mk IV, I came into conclusion it would be just pointless to open such a thread. Therefore, this request:

Restrict Cobra Mk IV only to the human commanders - a.k.a. players who backed Horizons.

I will not lie if I say that seeing the NPC flying playable ship which is not obtainable by any means, something boils down my stomach on borderline of disappointment and barely controlled anger. It's one thing seeing Cobra Mk IV flown by other players - but totally different thing when you see a lot of NPCs flying it.

I'd love to own that ship. I envy the players having it, really! Yet I understand them not willing to open it to others.

But God almighty, with all respect, shoving "oh look the ship you cannot fly" flown by NPCs is just low-tier bullcrap.

As a owner of the cobra MKIV I can say that you really arent missing much.

I understand you "should" have the option to have it. but the cobra MK IV is inferior in overall performance to the cobra MK III

You get higher armor capacity on the MK IV but it is significantly slower than the MKIII and without speed you might as well as be dead in a ship of this size.

I think the main reason why the cobra 4 is so slow is because they knew they would have people complain about a premium ship being so much better but otherwise unobtainable if they didnt nerf the speed so heavily otherwise.

Although im surprised frontier hasnt picked up on the fact that no one wants to use the Cobra Mark 4 due to how bad its speed is and just made it avalible for everyone so it gets use by newcomers.
The cobra mark 4 is otherwise a pointless ship.

Obviously some NPC's backed Elite Dangerous:Horizons early too!
Good on 'em, their vessels flying around adds to my game variety. Also makes me feel like I am not the only one in the galaxy who is flying the CM4 :)

And remember, exclusive means exclusive. Not excluded.

I would dispute the assumption that it is a pointless ship.

I use mine for assassination missions, using two mid beams and three missile launchers and than can change the fitting for passenger missions. This ship paid for and fitted out my FDL, with credits to spare.

I think if new players had access to it, it would be viewed more favourably. For its cost and fitting cost; basically the same as the Cobra III, it offers a good return.

And anyone who had the Lifetime expansion pack.
Pre-Horizons LEP owners were Horizons pre-orders though... they couldn't be otherwise.
If you got a LEP now, you would not have pre-ordered, and therefore would still not have a Cobra IV.
Don't let that stop you if they do make the LEP available again though.

I had my LEP before the game was released in Kickstarter. My other two accounts were after Horizon and I don't think they had LEP after that.

If I can't have it, neither should NPCs.

The only time a Cobra4 should be seen is if a player is flying one. It is an "exclusive" ship after all.

(I've thought this for a long while, but it was never important enough to me to make a thread about it.)

So how do you not know that those NPC flying around in Cobra MK IV was around when players got access to this ship?

And what else should we remove from the game that players cannot obtain? Stations? outposts? capital ships? surface bases?

Barely controlled anger on seeing an NPC Mk 4? [woah]

Honestly think OP would be better off learning a life lesson that sometimes circumstances mean we cannot have everything we want.

This should not evoke "barely controlled anger", it is normal, everyone experiences it in one way or another, it is just part of life.

Barely controlled anger? Oh my.

Can we please finally stop arguing if the Cobra IV is a good ship or not and just bloody give it to everyone already to decide for themselves ? I love mine, and it's absolutely the best ship for it's purpose in my fleet. Wing members who have copied the build agree.

It's an asset that is available for use to add more variety to the NPC population. I can understand your frustration at not being able to get one but I'd like to see NPCs flying more non-purchasable ships. If no-one were able to buy the ship an NPC flys would this be less frustrating for you? I'm thinking of all the filler ships from older games like the Gecko etc. The meshes could be created, the ships could be seen even if only as decoration, abandoned or crashed on a planet POI (like Jameson's cobra). Potentially they could be sneak previews of upcoming player flyable ships.

In a similar vein I'd like to see NPCs flying down to ports on atmospheric worlds. Just because we can't do it yet doesn't mean NPC ships need to be similarly restricted. Clearly it can be done otherwise how did we get into space in the first place? ;)
