Remove RNG from Mining

Do you mean you had better outcome with the blue asteroids ??

I mean those who were not highlighted by the scanner.
I just saw an asteroid next to an asteroid the scanner sent me to and i thought: This is one i would check with the old mining system, and BINGO.
As far as i know, the grade of brightness just display the density, not the type/value.

I've seen this argument in other threads.

"I've found a hotspot, I want the first asteroid I target to give me the highest payout. Otherwise I'm not going to play your game."

Prospecting doesn't work like that......

This was my point with this thread...which garnered more attention than I thought it had.

The only reason he has not learnt the shape is because he cant find any due to RNG. Its hard to remember the shape of something you have never seen :) He just had bad luck, which I believe was the point of his post.

Exactly.

But the real problem with luck like this larger than just not finding good rocks.

If you are, like me, a player who enjoys multiple activities in Elite...why mine? Salvage, combat and delivery all pay more, with reliable results. So assuming you enjoy all those things, why would you drop activities that are both fun AND reliably rewarding, to sit in belts and gamble on RNG?

This is what Frontier needs to address. Mining needs to be reliably rewarding. Other professions are...this one should receive a buff to match.

Maybe that's more cores. Maybe that's more profitable subsurface mining. Or later mining. Or both. But mining needs to be brought in line, to a reasonable degree, with other reliably rewarding professions.

The bit where you want your toys back and you're not going to play untl they are returned?

Fyi, im.not going to dignify this, or any other comment from you now, with any more reply than this. Just so you dont waste more of your time, mate.

Whatever is bugging you though, I hope you work it out. Happy Holidays.

Let me just leave this here

So I don't want to add to the complaining - and that's great that you guys are finding diamonds but I'm not looking for that or want to mine for profit there's easier ways to make money in this game.

But what about Painite? I've gone to about 8 'Painite hot spots' now. Some a ways from populated systems, and have found only 1 core asteroid with 3 painite that could be mined (probably because I did a crap job on blowing it up). All I'm really trying to do is find 7 more painite and then I'm done with mining so are all the hotspots really just mined out or something? I know I'm doing something wrong so a hint would help because I find things labeled as hotspots with nothing hot to be pretty frustrating.

Here's how I do it - Find myself a nice quiet ring, scan it for LTD's/OPAL or Painite. Drop into the HOTSPOT.

Now here is the important part - I cruise above the ring whilst pinging the roids, I only head into the field once two criteria are met

1. The roid is the correct shape (only one type of asteroid has fissures) Each ring type has it's own unique roid (Goggle for screenshots)

2. The roid must be glowing bright yellow with red and black spots. When I say bright I mean bright, you can't miss it when scanning from a distance.

I have been mining LTD's/Painite/OPAL over the past few days, averging 1 rock per 10 mins. Correct Yield will net you a lot of cash, minimum 6 mill per roid.. But you don't care about that..

As far as setting the yield, it doesn't need to match the fissure: So if you are near optimum, you can place a low charge into a high fissure.

Thank you, I'll head out and try again.

I was having a hard time finding nuts to crack until I started boosting AWAY from the hotspot waypoint. So drop into the hotspot, then boost away from it. I'd estimate I was finding about 10 crackas in an hour yesterday. Maybe a bit more.

By the way semi-random note here ... what's with asteroid belts? Why are there only ever like 5 or 6 asteroids? This seems crazy when you consider our solar system's asteroid belt. FD needs to Make Asteroid-belts Great Again. (or, for the first time)

Why go through the trouble of having them in the game if they aren't useful? What purpose do they serve?

Thanks.

I will try this method before giving up on it.

So not 10 minutes after you posted, I went and cruised full speed only prospecting possible candidates and found a painite core. I also took a couple screenshots to keep so I know what it looks like in the future. This time I blew it up much better, and ended up with 17 more refined in my cargo so got what I needed for engineer, plus a little profit. Thanks again!

The mistakes I made was thinking just because it was bright it was worth prospecting and also I was mixing in surface mining of mid-range stuff hoping rarer stuff would occasionally pop - that never happened. So definitely was wasting too much time!

Update. Made a Phantom mining ship and on my first run I managed a reasonable amount of minerals.

That’s a first go. Still learning to properly recognize the rocks. Definitely profitable. My total will sell for over 90 million (there’s a bit left in the bins).
