Newcomer / Intro Removing materials from the ignore list

I have added some materials to the 'ignore' list. I found this useful as they were no longer highlighted on the scanner. However, I have now used up some of these materials and I want to start collecting them again. How do I remove them from the ignore list without first finding them and removing individual materials on the contact page?

Unfortunately F D have not enabled editing of the ignore list. You have to do it via the Contacts panel of the UI - so look for the greyed-out item appearing and chose to Remove from Ignore (whatever the words are). If surface prospecting, you can see material chunks that are not shown in the scanner and so know to look in the contacts list to see what they are or target them to identify - in space mining you just have to be a bit more observant or totally rely on the contacts panel.

good luck

Go and find some of the material you want to ignore so that it shows up in your Left Panel>Targets list. Go to Left Panel>Targets, select the material you want to stop ignoring and a window should pop up asking if you want to remove the material from the Ignore list. o7

One more example of FDev seemingly finding the most convoluted and least intuitive way possible to implement a feature. I mean what is wrong with a simple list with checkboxes to turn the ignore functionality on and off. Other than it being simple, straightforward and easy to utilise obviously.

Well, it wouldn't be great if you're out mining and just want to add the bromellite that's floating around. A list would be great, but then you'd have 2 things for fdev to break every release - I'd be scared to add it ....

The highlighted bit is a fair point but with intelligent programming (i.e. a 'select/deselect all' box which would make setting up something like only collecting a single item a two click process) the actual selection would be simple enough.

I don't know why F D can't do something about this in the Right-Hand (Internal) UI - say a tick box in each Materials line in the Inventory page - so tick to ignore (or vice versa). Could even do it in the Cargo page - i.e. stuff in the Hold - tick to ignore - maybe even finally have a tick to ignore all illegal salvage (long been asked for).

Too sensible!
