I have an honest question, and please don't read this as anything but a serious question:

What is the fascination with MLP exactly?

I've seen this "brony?" thing on other forums too, and I think the term just means "a fan of MLP", but I need to ask, what makes MLP so great? Why do you all like it? And please, I'm not trying to be snarky or anything but it's an honest question. I've never seen the cartoon at all, and I truly don't understand the attraction, my impression was that it always was a kid cartoon for little girls, yet I see it time and time again where adults, men even, really seem to like the show.

So, is the show more than I think it is? Is it actually a good show and not as kiddy as it appears to be? Am I missing out on something worth watching? Because, truthfully, I'm baffled by it all. :S

Actually, for me, it's the art style. I guess I like it for the same reason some people like anime. It's just nice to look at.

Granted, the world of MLP fan-fiction is great too. We have some extremely talented writers. And a lot of that fan-fiction is NOT for kids. I myself have written some pretty violent tales set in the MLP universe.

It's actually a very well put together show with interesting and fun characters, great animation, fun lore, and remarkable pathos for a "kid's show." Of course there are better and worse episodes, but overall the show is Quality. It's 'Actually Good' if you take my meaning. You can tell the show runners actually care about it. Compared with a lot of other cartoons aimed at young kids, anyway, that dedication is apparent. It also does a great job of challenging traditional entertainment stereotypes. Yes, boys and girls can enjoy the same thing if it's....*gasp*.... actually good. :) I'm 38 and have seen lots of tripe in my time, but MLP is good. It's got some issues, as all things do, but I recommend you give it a shot if you're at all curious.

Anyway, Elite/MLP is a good combo. ;)

Interesting. I grew up with cartoons like Star Blazers, Speed Racer, Robotech, Transformers, etc., but I've not seen many modern day cartoons. I have watched all of Avatar the Last Airbender and I really enjoyed that show, it was made for kids yet I found it entertaining as a story and I loved the art style. I've seen some of the new Voltron series on Netflix and I like it, I need to see the rest of it sometime. I don't watch much TV as a whole, but when I do cartoons aren't normally what I tune in to.


I do own all of Star Blazers on DVD though. :cool:

If you ever get the chance, watch the original Science Ninja Team Gatchaman* in the original Japanese (with appropriate sub-titles) - it's awesome!


*People in the UK knew a vastly cut version as 'Battle of the Planets'

I've actually seen it, my brother owns the whole original subtitled series on DVD. I did watch Battle of the Planets as a kid, but man did we miss out on the better version!


Everytime I see an Imperial Clipper in the game it reminds me of the Phoenix from Gatchaman.

My Corvette is named Glitter and Gold. Not MLP reference but I'll go with kindred spirit. =) actually its named for the Barns Courtney song, but hey.
