Repeat the same Guardian unlock 18 times? Really?

From what I can see of the new Guardian weapons, they require 18 weapon blueprints.
With the "fix" introduced by ED, I see that we now get a whole 1 material per run through of the Weapon Blueprint unlock.
Implications are very easy, please player, go REPEAT this section another 18 times.

I get that Elite has a degree of grind in it, after all that's how you get to Elite. But 18 more times, of the same thing.

Are you trying to say "go forth and play DCS my young padawan".

Perhaps this puts lie to the claim that relogging is an exploit?

Unless I am completely mistaken, it's actually random as to whether you will get a weapon blueprint or a module blueprint on completion. That means you will need to complete it significantly more times than 18.

DCS sounds like a good option...

Someone will no doubt tell you that the "intended" way to play, is to complete the site, and then fly off to another site. :D [haha]

No, well yes. There are still two sites (OK obelisks on one site) that weren't fixed, but if I share that info here, they'll fix them. I'll post it once I've got everything I need.

You know what you're considering, I assume? That is a lot more detailed in operation of your avatars (flythings) than Elite. Your rig is not that bad I guess? Mine couldn't quite handle the additional memory load anymore - I'd need to upgrade for the current version.

Which genius at FD thought this is good 'game'?
How did it get passed through to actually be in the 'game'?
That's what I wonder.
you seem suprised, like its something new.
they have been doing this kind of "gameplay" for a while now.. like buying you PP fortification stuff per 5-50 depending on your rank. instead of getting a full hold in one go. or other relogging madness..

I dont know, one site gave me a module blueprint, then I did another site three times and got three weapon blueprints. Could be pure chance of course but at the time I thought each site had its own reward. Made sense to me at the time because there were three blueprint types and three sites mentioned in galnet. Regardless, its crap design and I gave up on it. :p

I hope it was just a thorough lack of thought and communication, with one dev making the ruins and another doing the 'recipe' and just mindlessly adding stuff from the 'new loot list'. If they actually had a meeting and decided this was a good idea than God have mercy on us all. On the other hand, sometimes I get the impression Sandro honestly doesn't get it. FD seems more than willing to backpedal and make changes, at every turn they make the same mistake again, get surprised by the negative feedback then later fix it.

This should be stickied in Sandro's office:

Two Rules Of Game Design:

1) Doing something that has no challenge over and over without offering an alternative is not fun.
2) Randomness to introduce interesting scenarios=good, randomness for the sake of randomness=bad.

And by God I hope that whatever they are planning for 3.3, they really contemplate the above at every step.

Well I hope you are right on that one. :)

Won't make too much difference to me either way though, because like you, it's highly unlikely I will actually go and do that. It's fun the first few times, but the definition of insane to go do it that many times.

Yeah, and its such a shame. They went from us going 'wow, what a cool site and some cool new toys to boot!' to 'man how incompetent can these designers be?'. Seriously, just have people go to each site once, and have that be enough to unlock all modules.

Do fun stuff + get rewarded = happy gamers.

If FD were into actual space engineering they'd build the greatest rocket ever, then at the very end replace the heat shield with a wooden spoon. It makes no sense and obviously doesn't work. Sure, many design choices are by definition controversial. But here I have seen literally noone say that this is actually fun. Or even somewhat okay. It honestly boggles the mind.

Yeah.... I'm not going to do that. That is a really bad mechanic.
I think the devs will have a meeting about that and eventually decide this must change.
If not, well... then I for one will certainly never have Guardian weapons and modules.

It definitely isn’t random. I went to the same site for all my weapon blueprints. Never got a module blueprint from that site. The odds of RNG giving me the exact same result 12 times are remote.

No, each site drops 1 type of blueprint. Or atleast, there are some sites that only drop 1 type of blueprint.

This thread is a shaudenfreudesque gift...

Unlike most eager cmdrs who rushed to get a shiny new chieftain and/or speed grind the new engineers, when 3.0 dropped I carried on slowly meandering my way through Ram Tah's old mission... and it rained Guardian blueprints, but only because the bugs introduced to RT's mission meant loads if rescanning, extra obelisk testing, and alt site visits. So, I don't feel your pain. Does that make me a bad person?

I've all but given up playing this game. Release after release, year after years with questionable developments and little but no true progress in meaninful layered core gameplay mechanics...

I'd love a reason to come back! Some glimmer of interesting and involved gameplay.

BUT, when I read about yet more weapons being added (for what true purpose?), and yet more upgrades being added (for what true purpose?), requiring collections of yet more new materials (for what true purpose?) from yet more location, involving what many consider to be excessive grind gameplay? It hardly hits me as a good reason to start playing again.

Fun? Enjoyable? Challenging?

I'll put this down as yet another lazy/confused development in a string of similar ones which has unfortunately has made up all too much of the past 2-3 years...

Roll on Q4, for FD to show us what you can really achieve please! Let's see some truly bar raising new mechanics please, and a reason for me to actually load the game again.

Note: Clearly/seemingly people aren't enjoying the premise of yet more farming/grinding for yet more materials for yet more weapons? Surely the "fun" and "engagement" should be in the USE of the weapons and what activities and challenges you can undertake with them? NOT the needless time sponge grind to get them? It's as if FD know they can't offer much "fun" and "challenge" by actually creating more involved gameplay, so instead fixate on creating ever increasingly complex and time consuming grind walls pretending to be "gameplay".

I seriously wonder if they can do it.

I would like it for there to be cool new things to do with the new stuff - not just the getting of the new stuff.
