Repeat the same Guardian unlock 18 times? Really?

Who doesn't.

I have no truck with enforced empathy. Rowr.

Next time one of you guys get back to the tech broker dude with their guardian loot, please tell him to make a copy of that goddamn blueprint already so that other CMDRs won't have to do the same data scanning again.

Thanks in advance in the name of all mankind.

No one has found the Guardian Outpost, where they secretly developed Copy/Paste yet?

Or is that Q4?

What suggestions?? They design abysmal gameplay with endless boring repeating that destroys any enjoyment one may get out of the game if taken seriously. This isn't some issue to fix, this is the major issue with the key design philosophy of the game in the first place.

Dropping truth bomb like that it a war crime

I can't avoid the feeling there's some form of petulance involved in the persistently repetitive and unimaginative content E-D has suffered since 2.1 and the first iteration of RNGineers descended and broke the game balance. Surely no design team involved in a project like E-D could be so impervious to seeing the constantly failing content updates from Powerplay to CQC, Multi-pew and engineers and be so blind as to continue to ignore at least some of the frustrated feedback from the community?...

We won't mention the Generation ships and other story based content that seemed so full of promise but having no story to attach them to the main game whatsoever...

I'm still plugging away of course... but that's exactly what it feels like now. A force of habit whilst waiting for the next overly enthusiastic and embarrassing live stream that is prelude to the wait for more hope... but usually ending in some form of disappointment.

After 3+ years of a design team adding more guns in order to kill each other... or just upset the deadly and frightening aliens that only attack on a Thursday and can only appear in the space version of council mini roundabouts I can fly past and ignore at my leisure... I'm still exploring the galaxy with tools the equivalent of a post it note written in Japanese clipped to the dashboard with a clothes peg and searching for artifacts on planets by flying along in my ship at zero feet with the headlights on hoping to see a reflected gleam of something ...interesting...before I fall asleep and somersault to my demise on the rocky sphere...

How funny :) ... I didn't touched guardian content yet and still enjoy my time spent playing ED. The need to have all overnight is obvious issue here. (without board hoping ofc ..., is good to have a bonus reason to go to these places)

We need 6 times run for 18 blueprints. After every finial scan you guarteed to get module or weapon blueprint depends on the guardian site.
Before the fix we needed RNG scans of obelisks to get them. That was the hard way.
During process of activating that machine, you can get tons of materials from the sentials too. Each run can be finished under 8 min.

Did you miss the part where we get just 1 blueprint for each run and NOT 3?
I've already done more than 6 runs to get the first round of new guardian weapons. To unlock the second tranche of weapons requires another 18 runs, which can only be done at one of the sites.

Totally agree - I've mentioned this multiple times. People joke about DCS, but hey, DCS has it's own mission builder. Don't like the mission? Make your own.

There really have been a plethora of brilliant suggestions for gameplay. Gameplay that would actually make the gathering of materials fun. This is what's lacking - fun. A game is not a grind if you are enjoying whatever it is you need to do to achieve whatever it is that you wish to achieve.

Yeah it's hard to be positive about this game after so many 4 years. 2 years after release I was still positive but now... I think ED won't change. It won't chage as much as it need to the game everyone wanted. Many of the issues are linked to core game design like weird p2p mmo structure of instances. At first I thought mmo aspect of ED will be great but not anymore. Some minor problems can be fixed/tweaked but ED being mmoish won't ever stop being a shallow game. Many pressing issues won't ever be fixed because they can't be fixed with game running as mmo with separate instances. There will never be any meaningfull persistance in the world or anything more complex and less shallow than neverending spawn of pirates in res site. I'm hoping fdev will make another elite game in the future, but this time a proper one. ED can still be somewhat salvaged and I hope this year and "beyond" updates will make it batter but after 4 years of seeing the same placeholder content and addition of new never_wanted_by_anyone features... it feels like the devs are trying to sink this game more than anything. It's also too much of "gameplay trumps realism" AND "gameplay trumps common sense" approach for me. I get it but I don't like it. But I'm still here, not playing but still hoping.

This doesn't work in 2018. Sure, Elite was Epic™, purely because it did amazing things for its time. No other game had such depth, such a large play area. Played now, it's a bit of a grind, but back then, that was the peak of what could be wrung out of the hardware of the time.

It's 2018, the base game, the one I played in Beta 3 or so years ago, that was also awesome - a great base to start things off. There is a lot that I think FD got right. The flight model is a lot of fun. I don't care what you say about newtonian physics and the like, I mean, I agree, however, I really think FD walked that tightrope between realism and fun brilliantly. There's also VR, graphics, muh immershon... It's not all they got right, either. However, to quote the great Westorosian philosopher, Tyrian Lannister...

But...

The big issue seems to be an almost over commitment of features, that never really get completed, and a lack of any real fun.

If you value my time, then ensure that I am having fun. Now, here comes the bit where people will cry out about "iWin buttons", the "I want it now" generation...

This is not, at all, my point. If it takes me 5 years to get an anaconda, but I am enjoying every single step? That is awesome - I'll be having fun all the way, and won't mind if I don't have the biggest baddest ship out there (pro-tip, for those without a big ship, I still have the most fun with medium and small ships, and I've been playing since Beta 2.4). In fact, my most used ships are the Vulture and the Asp X.

Now, there have been a boatload of great ideas, I won't name them all, but a small few off the top of my head (sorry, I can't give credit where it's due, but know that your ideas have been heard by many players, at least).

-Mats - sure, gather mats in the normal traditional ways if you like, but how about naming your price for missions? We're almost there, in fact... But imagine if you could ask for Datamined Wake Exceptions specifically? Or Exquisite Focus Crystals (EFC)'s? 7 of them! Now, let's assume that certain mats/data can only be obtained form certain system/economy types, so it's not too easy to have a one stop shop, but you turn up, go to your missions board, request 7, now based on your ranks, and, perhaps even notoriety, you'll be offered missions of suitable difficulty.

Foureggsample... You may be Deadly in Combat, Elite in Trade and elite exploration. Your mission options may be "Take out the 5 heads of the Megasick Piracy Corp™", you'll need to track them down and take them out one by one.

Option 2 - go to the XYZ Nebula, and find a planet with a composition of X materials, bring back the scan data, and deliver it to system Whatever.

Option 3 - The rebels of Imperial Scum wish to overthrow the local rulers, for this they need weapons - you'll need to source, and smuggle 1000T of battle weapons to deliver to the rebels.

Now, don't allow my lack of imagination to turn you off, I'm sure far more interesting missions can be given, but the point is, you should be able to spend the amount of time you'd normally spend doing boring stuff over and over to grind for mats, actually doing things you enjoy, and achieving your goals in a way that's fun to you. For those that like doing random stuff all the time and picking up whatever happens to drop - guess what? you still can! Play your own way, and all that...

Conflict zones - this is where CQC/SLF's should have been really used. If there's a war, the local faction you want to fight for will supply your SLF, you can pick your loadout based on your combat rank (same options as CQC, say), but if you die, you don't have to pay a re-buy (when was the last time a fighter pilot coughed up for the plane when they got shot down?). Down sides? Sure, if your K:D ration is on the wrong side, it adversely affects your rep, and after a while, the faction will be less likely to give you an SLF until you earn back their trust some other way. Oh... Once you pick a faction to fight for, that's where you stay for the whole war. No double dipping.

So now, there is no reason not to fly combat in open (short of "I'm antisocial", or "my net sucks" reasons - and fair enough), you're not paying for re-buys, and you could have some pretty epic combat around stations and megaships/cap ships in those fast little fighters. And it doesn't take a week to take out your opponent. Unless they really know how to fly.

I won't post any more, there really are so many excellent ideas already posted, you're likely to randomly stumble upon them by simply clicking "New Posts".

Anyway, for now, I'm on a break from ED, and I'm really enjoying playing another FD game (Planet Coaster) with my daughter. Odd that Planet Coaster has better staff management features (by far) than ED, and I wonder if adding some of those features to NPC crew would make it a little more fun...

Great an old 80s game. Just what we needed.

He's wrong anyway, Elite Dangerous is a remake of Frontier: Elite 2 but with less planet types to land on, different flight dynamics, less naval story specific missions, less orrery & less rear view cam; but the two shared - our galaxy, system map, trade / fight / pirate / mine & Thargoids (might've been First Encounters: Elite), with the Empire and Federation at odds.
Elite 84 had a rectangular flat galaxy (was there four of these?) where each sun had one planet and one station and you could also trade / fight / pirate / mine and Thargoids.

That's how half the people in this thread were talking when I first made these points (before they actually tried it).
Once you actually give it a go, come back and see how you feel then

I'm just coming to the end of the second ram Tah mission. There have been some really good bits. Sampling thargoid tissue (to unlock the cargo rack) and the first two ruins where I harvested everything was top entertainment. I liked the idea of making it easier in a small ship. But... I then realised that I had been at it for two weeks, and had 6/28 of the files. And what was left was more of the same. I'd already suffered from getting dizzy round dav's hope gathering the chemical processors for the cargo rack. And reobtaining the thargoid probe, link and scanner (cos I can't store them) wasn't the fun it was the first time...

So I decide to sack off harvesting the stuff behind the panels, and doing the data grind, and just used the info on Canon to get mission done. Two sites left and I think, well maybe I should gather the stuff for the guardian tech on these.... How many? Really? You have got to be joking.

Make each base give out one blueprint (as others have said). Even better make a linked chain of progressively harder bases. Some have more sentinels. Some need some srv low G stunt riding to get to the right bits. A bit of variety and risk for the last ones. The most entertaining thing in this mission was the thargoid tissue samples. I copped a couple of rebuys doing that, and that made it far more fun. Doing the same low risk activity over and over and over... Please stop that stuff.

It's not that easy, at least not for me.

It's far from 1984. and people experienced A LOT of various game mechanics over the years.

I don't personally think BBoard number roulette is enough any more to keep me interested.
It needs some sense in number values at least, but also manually infused bits and peaces here and there.

Guess what. We did just this with a budy. No board hopping no B.S. Just doing the ram tah mission. We are at 24/28 data.

We can unlock the gauss canon and only because we visited the same site twice by accident. It's the cheapest weapon, only requiring 4 blueprints. Module blueprints we found 2 of them over 13 sites.

I don't think it's possible to unlock any of the modules/wespons requiring 8 blueprints in an organic way.

So far we spent about 12h doing the mission. I think that a cost of 1-2 blueprint per module would not be a problem. This mission takes a long time. Having something to show for it at the end past the cheapest possible unlock would be nice.

The witcher / skyrim would have had maps in the ruins leading to the sites with plans for a given module. Paired with a puzzle, a few mobs and a boss fight. Just sayin.

I have no rush for it, unless the situation with Thargoids escalates significantly, I have other things to do and have fun (fighting Thargs is not my thing yet despite that I like fight) and I do not need equipment which I not want use. Beside this, it is not for a first time when new content released was tweaked for more as one time. FDev may heard feedback from players and rethink some things. If I will go to these ruins in nearest future then it will be primarily to see how they looks and how in real acts these ruins defenders (want see by myself, not look on some youtube video :) ). Btw, imo what needs more work (instead change weps unlock) is here in this thread: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showt...-of-reaction-to-the-Thargoids-(a-bit-of-rant) (could be a reason why I do not feel any need to be involved yet)
