I was excited to see this on Inara when I woke up, but then when I logged onto the game to hand it in, I was in the top 50% instead. Guess it's time to get hauling if I want that Corvette paintjob lol!
Oh, mate, that sucks.
To avoid unpleasant surprises, always hand in at least 20 million above the lower bracket of your target tier.
Oh I know, but unfortunately, I was only able to start hunting a few hours before it ended, and did my 42m (48m but fighter crew takes their cut) in one session, and went to bed when it showed 36m as cutoff for 25%. I would have aimed for top 10% if I could have started working on it earlier. I've gotten to Top 10 Commanders (not percent, but top 10 spots) on a few CG in my years so I know all about needing to get a good padding between oneself and the cutoff. My disappointment wasn't even with missing the cutoff, but with Inara getting my hopes up that I wouldn't have to do some hauling for the paintjob and that my last minute rushed bounty hunt had paid off. Inara didn't even update me out of the top 25% until a few minutes ago, since it requires player data to determine the cutoffs.
This CG went along a little too swimmingly 
I considered pirate kill missions, but the ones I saw only directed me towards systems where Earth Defence Fleet was not in overall control, so without a KWS I probably wouldn't be guaranteed a regular bounty stream for that faction.
I just resorted to hunting big prey in my PvE Corvette within the Compromised Nav Beacon in Lushertha, making sure I wasn't carrying anything that might have the entire theatre of combat on my back at once. Only had time to take part across one single day, but made 50M in bounties just as the CG was nearing completion. Thankfully enough to stay in top 25%.
Now helping the trade CG reach tier so that rewards can be dispensed. From the combat figures, 1181 missed out on getting a paintjob by being in the bottom 50%, with a further 590 getting one but not the other due to being outside the top 25%. At the moment in the Trade CG there are 1910 contributors, with the respective figures at 955 in the bottom 50% and an additional 477 only getting one, as things currently stand.
Would it be greedy of me to aim again for Top 25%-plus, in doing so depriving one or two unlucky CMDRs of the material reward?

Is this part of the community goal closed? I turned in 1.5m worth of bonds but nothing has updated. Then I now notice a blue globe with a check mark. I'm now guessing this signifies as completed? As in over no more thank you very much.

Yes, you can click completed and you will get your reward when it comes out. The delivery CG is still going if you have a cargo ship and want to take part in that.
