I am bored about this hyperjump screen too and I only played about 5 ingame days so far.
Your suggestion sounds good.

How many jumps have you done, again, in 5 days?

I''ve done over 20k, and I still love it. Having a well set up 5.1 surround system helps, the audio effects are astounding.

I wouldn't mind something like that in the trailer - I mean, who wouldn't like to be able to jump to the middle of the Milky Way from what seems to be one of the Magellanic Clouds - in a single jump!

OK, seriously, something like that could be cool - but remember, it is Witchspace™ we are seeing when we jump between systems, the domain of Thargoids, it's not us flying through normal space super-hyper-mega-fast! As such, I'd be inclined to suggest adding a fe wmor eanimations, and lets put that on the priority list somewhere about 600 positions below orrery system view, atmospheric planet landings, 1st person walking around ship, additional ships, alien species, a better background sim and playe rinfluenced markets... - I think I made my point.

Z...

Whilst I can see why you would suggest it visually

The Jump is via Witch space so should not reflect the real space locality, as it is traversing a different dimension

OP: no way hyperspace is the thin layer behind space and traversing it is much different from real space.

I voted 'no' because it wouldn't add much to the game in terms of gameplay, but would (probably) be significant development effort to achieve. I also think we'd all get used to the new animation and it would soon be as 'samey' as what we have now.

I've see several good ideas here and alternative ways of doing it and I'm down with pretty much any of them so long as we don't have to stick with the current one (unless they make it more interesting and varied). You are after all spending a lot of time looking at this animation, especially when exploring.

It would totally depend on where you are in the galaxy. E.g. if you jump through the Orion Nebula you would have a very different experience than if you were jumping around the galactic core with a much higher density of stars. The very point of this idea was that it would vary and give you better visual cues about where you are and how far you're traveling in the galaxy—in addition to some spectacular eye-candy.

As for the other statements about witch space; they could easily bypass this by e.g. saying that the witch space is an "interdimensional space, where light from space can still pass through, rather than a extra-dimensional one. That's just off the top of my mind but I'm sure you can come up with several other good ideas that would still encompass the lore. And hell they don't seem to care that much about it since they ignored it in their own trailer so I don't think it's that big of a deal. Just use technobabble to subvert it like in any other sci-fi game. My main focus is gameplay and non-lore immersion-related here.

Thats an absolutely great idea! I was thinking about this since first days with Elite - I really dislike current jump animation.

EVEN MORE ! Ditch the "accurate" part, you wouldnt notice much of the difference, but it would be really easy to make WHOLE animation something like the few endign seconds - just white lines, star wars / star trek effect.

Would even enhance immersion, feeling of a deep dark empty space. Just infinite blackness with white lines of stars passing by.
