Report issues using the Issue Tracker

If I had a saying in the development, I'd make them spend the next X months polishing the game and make sure 99% of the bugs are removed.

That sounds great from dev point of view, but sadly it's usually absolute disaster from the marketing point of view when you come to the players after half a year (or probably more) and tell them you have nothing new, only fixed issues. "What, the game is dead, it gets no development, I'll go play something else" would be the most common response, I imagine.

And of course once you'd restarted the development, you'd get basically the same amount of the bugs again.

I disagree with your post entirely. Bug fixing is a form of development, as the potential enjoyment of 'content' can be locked behind bugs. Robbed by bugs. I am not saying Elite Dangerous is a turd sandwich. Using your logic here, adding tomato and lettuce to a turd sandwich, does not make it taste any better.

So we get all this mention on new player experience, and ARX, in the live stream this week. <sarcasm> Bully for them! </sarcasm> But did I miss it when they mentioned bug fixes in the update next week? I was watching it at 2x speed where it didn't put me to sleep...so I might have missed it?

They always announce bug fixes in the patch notes which won't be published until the 17th at the earliest.

Speaking as a developer myself, although not a game developer, you are never going to be able to fix all the bugs, nor should you ever try.
Bugs come in various categories. Some will be trivial to fix. So you fix them when you have a spare moment. Some will be feature-breaking, as you say. So you prioritise those and fix them quickly. But all of the rest have to be considered with the rest of the work that you have to do. You've promised feature-X to customers and they will be annoyed if you don't create it. As Sanya V. Juutilainen says, not creating new content is definitely going to have people muttering about a dead product. You look at the bug list and decide which of them you are going to be able to fix for the most benefit.

Take Elephant Butt Leather for example. I have no insider knowledge here but, simply from the fact that it clearly annoys customers and still hasn't been fixed, I can guess that it isn't an easy fix to make. Is it worth spending a person-month fixing it, or would the time be better spent fixing half a dozen or more other bugs?

At any given time, software projects have bug lists that are hundreds of bugs long. Maybe half of them have been reported by customers and half only by your in-house QA team. Some of them cannot be reproduced. Some of them are so obscure or minor that they don't really affect anyone. You fix the ones you need to fix, you do the other work that you need to do, and then you pick the low-hanging fruit and the ones that everyone is shouting about with a view to maximizing the customer experience with the resources available. The resources are never sufficient; you will always leave bugs that annoy customers and you never, ever, fix all the bugs; it's probably impossible to do it with an evolving product like ED.

Does anyone know what error code: Orange sidewinder mean? I haven't been able to log back in game since the update. I have steam, which is supposed to do updates automatically. I verified files integrity and everything checked out fine. Not sure what's wrong.

Got the september update PS4 and went to mine, as soon as I started getting my limpets to collect the game crashed with error code BLACK ADDER. Repeated 3 times same thing happened with the same error so went to PvP first round ok the second round the screen went dark couldnt see anything but can hear the thrusters and booster when used. Turned playstation off and went to bed. VERY ANNOYING!!!.

Engineer's menu and attached drawings menu do not work. There is no indication of the choice of menu items and there is no reaction to the selection using the mouse cursor or the space bar. PS platform.

The Issue Tracker is designed to make it so that issues are more visible, so you can follow their progress. Whilst voting will help highlight things of important to larger groups of people it's not intended to result in any other issues being ignored.
@Paul_Crowther 5 months later and we still cant even vote on a known bug for you to fix

They have added error codes in the form of a ship name + a colour for their internal use.

I am experiencing the "Black Adder" error when asteroid mining.
I have attempted to add to the issue tracker but it just says "unable to add your comment" - not very useful!

Wow, a release so bad it's broken the issue tracker too !
I raised an issue yesterday in the tracker ( relating to the broken new Livery feature ) - so it was working then.

It's good to see 11 fixes and the issue tracker being updated following a game update, I think given the number of new issues detected and the increasing gaps between major updates (if this September update could be called that) I hope FDev will start issuing more minor updates to fix bugs & add QoL changes rather than delaying fixes to try to roll them all out in one go like this.

Change one thing, address the problems the fix creates, change the next yada yada (imo).

We now have new sub-categories under Invalid: Expired and Duplicated (what on earth does Expired mean? Maybe if they have been waiting for more info from the reporter and not heard back?).

Also we can now filter by platform PC/Playstation/Xbox. Nice to see some much needed minor improvements being made.

Improvements to the issue tracker are always welcome, the better it is to use the more likely it is we will use it properly.

Possible meanings for expired are that the issue was for something that is now not in the game, or maybe something that has not been confirmed after a reasonable time period.

I tried the Issue Tracker to support a network issue complaint with more evidence and it would not let me in. I used the same Frontier Account as this Forum and the Store. Really disappointing. How do I use this thing? More to the point, log into this utility? I can log into the store. I can log into the Forum. But I cannot log into the Issue Tracker using the same Frontier Credentials.
