Reputation negatively affected in CZ

Doesn't make sense you would stay friendly/allied with someone after you've blown up their ships in a war zone. What you're describing seems more realistic if it's intended.

I agree that its more realistic.... I was more pointing out that it was a change!

I do love that ED allows you flexibility of play by design. Superpower ranks, hot ships, etc. But I've always been of the opinion that as far as CZs go, it's just silly that you can fight wars without reputation drop.

A fair, sanctioned war?! Does (should) such a thing exist?! :)

Yes, when one side declares war on another it is a sanctioned war. That is why the phrase 'declare war' exists. The aggressed side can capitulate or defend itself and in either case, soldiers fighting in said war are not considered criminals and makes no sense that they would be (unless they committed a 'war crime' under the geneva convention, I guess). :) I know you're just messing, but yeh, it's wrong to say that participation on a war should affect your rep witht eh enemy on a personal level as a soldier fighting in it. If the world was like that, when each war ended, the soldiers of the losing side would be rounded up as criminals (I know this has happened, but it's not the norm, or reasonable. And before you say what's reasonable about war, I say again, the Geneva Convention).

I think the only way you would have trouble cashing out is if you're supporting a minor faction and they had no control over any stations anywhere else. It's a big galaxy so I guess that would be a problem somewhere. So would you have to go to an interstellar factors to cash out? Might be a good work around.
If you're happy to just take the money and not care about the result, sure, it's not a problem. You can
- cash the bonds in a different system where the minor faction is present
- cash them at IF
- wait for the war to be over, wait for rep decay to bring you back to unfriendly, cash them in

If you want the bonds to actually affect the result, you need to cash them in the system with the war, while the war is going on. If the faction you're fighting against controls all the dockables in the system (and it's a big galaxy, there are plenty of systems which only have one dockable in the first place) you can't do that when you fall to hostile.

Fair, realistic or otherwise ... it gives a massive defensive bonus to certain factions.

The way I can see to work around it is:
- take a bunch of data delivery missions for the faction you want to fight *against* to stations they don't control
- fight in the CZ
- if you get to hostile, hand in delivery missions (taking the 'extra rep' reward where available) to return to unfriendly. As there's a war on, this won't help the faction's influence.
- hand in the bonds
- pick up some replacement delivery missions, repeat.

Shooting fish in a barrel where you can go back to a station and reload your ammo then come back and choose to fight on the other side is having issues working out it notoriety??

Well I'll be.

I hope they keep this "bug"

As others have noted it doesn't work from a gameplay perspective. Cant cash in bonds in a one station system and once hostile all ships turn on you immediately in the CZ even before selecting sides.

It doesnt even work from a lore perspective. All cmdrs are essentially mercenaries to factions and superpowers, we can only pledge to powers.

My strong preference for wars would be to integrate CQC with the main game. Go to station, sign up for a battle with a faction, telepresence to custom instance (containing cqc style assets) launch SLF (or range of faction appropriate ships) from carrier and pew pew. Sign out when finished/cash bonds.

It could be a deathmatch style event, might include triggered events, might depict a shifting battlefield. Asset attack/defense, procedurally generated mission briefings. There's a lot that could be done with it rather than the drop in and sign up mechanic that has been in since before launch.

.

How it should have been in the beginning! Why wouldn't they shoot at you?? Why would they cash in your bonds if they're on the other side?

I agree that it doesn't make logical sense that fighting against someone doesnt change their attitude towards you, however from a gameplay perspective, under current design, it doesnt work.

Under this scenario only the ruling faction can win the war in a one station system and that makes no sense either. So under current design, its about where you place the illogical!

LOL so either way it makes no sense because the foundation basically wasn't laid out at all and now we have a huge mess of illogical nonsense.

CZ's are one of the worst aspects of ED really. There's no "war" going on no matter how much you try to pull the wool over your own eyes. It's literally just infinite spawning targets - wars ravage areas and leave impacts, they leave survivors, the make refugee's and yet none of these indicators exist in the game that apparently, according to Braben, had it's foundation built and now they're "adding the furniture"

Does anyone believe that nonsense anymore? What foundation, this one?
