Request: Cobra Wireframe Paintjob another sell window ?

More than the "Limited Edition" tag of the wireframe skin, I remember all the whining, complaining and moaning about it's price. I'm surprised so many people bought it at all.

And yes, I agree it's very nice :) Personally, I bought it mostly as a "thank you" gesture to the FDev team for making the only game I have any desire to play, but I really like it regardless. So far, it's the only skin I payed money for and it looks like it will stay the only one for a while. I would really like a completely black skin, though. Just like the wireframe skin only without the wires. I would pay money for that.

Actually, I feel it's you who is twisting words. Did they say "1-time limited edition"? If not, how do you know that was their intent? Did it say "30th Anniversary Limited Edition"? Or perhaps "Limited 30th Anniversary Edition"? Did it signify whether the limitation was time, duration of sale, number of times it's available for sale, or a limit on the number of copies that would be sold?

Each of these carry a slightly different meaning, without which "Limited" is a rather vague term. So unless you know it was explicitly stated as jusr a 1-time deal, sooner or later you might be in for a disappointment.

Caveat emptor.

Particularly with this retailer, for whom "clear, unambiguous communication" is just not a strong point.

The Cobra Wireframe paintjob was marketed as a special, part of the 10-day celebrations for the 30th anniversary of Elite, limited edition - completely unambiguous, and obvious that it was a one-time special only.

The marketing for the flag paintjobs, in contrast, was much more open to interpretation.

You'd know this if you had read through the thread, as I've highlighted this a few times here.

One way the FD could make the skin available again without losing any of the meaning of "limited edition" would be to make it an in-game reward for earning the title of "Elite". This would limit the use of the skin to those who bought it during the 30th anniversary and those who "earned it" through skill.

As one who bought the skin, I would be more than happy for any player who achieved Elite ranking to receive it as part of any reward.

If given as a reward, it would not be sold - and everyone would have the chance to earn one.

It would definitely be a way to make it available without it losing any perceived value by those of us who paid for it.
Honestly I would love to see store items that are tied to your in-game achievements. Not only skins and decals but physical merchandise as well.

that would be a waste, and it would still be considered going back on their word. They'd lose the trust and respect of those that bought the 30th Anniversary wireframe.

If they do, they'll lose many future sales, and get lambasted but those they're doing it for.

Twisting words to mean what you WANT them to mean, rather than what they DO mean, is kinda childish, no?

I am twisting nothing. Newsletter 40 stated they would stop selling the limited edition flag paint jobs and FD did. Then they brought them back. The wording is similar with the limited edition wireframe in both Newsletter 41 and 42. They may never sale it again or they may. I suppose we will find out next September. IMO FD should do whatever is best for their company.

Newsletter 40
Also, availability of the limited edition flag paint jobs will end this Monday so if you want to grab one before then, go to the store and add them to your basket.

Newsletter 41
Also there is a limited edition wireframe paint job for the Cobra which is available here. It will only be available for the 10 days of our celebrations and will be withdrawn from sale on Tuesday 30th September so get it while you can!

Newsletter 42
Also, the limited edition wireframe Cobra paintjob will be withdrawn from sale on 30th September when we release Beta 2, but if you have bought one it will be yours to keep in the game.

I hate to be Mr Grump, but if the Cobra skin came up for sale again I'd ask for my money back. It's like the B5 scriptbooks, I missed the time they were available and I'm REALLY sorry I didn't get a peek at that bonus volume with the secret plan, but I'll actually be miffed if it ever becomes available again.

No matter how much I want to see it (more than most things I want) I'd be seriously annoyed on behalf of those who invested in the original volumes knowing that it was a limited edition.

I completely agree on this.

I would be angered if this appeared on sale again, in any short period of time.

Give 1 wireframe paintjob a year, on the anniversary, for a different ship each time. When you run out of new ships, they could sell the cobra wireframe and start the loop again. That gives at least 30 years of "exclusivity" ;)

Seriously though, don't screw us around with marketing FDEV, or people will lose all trust in you. The flag skins where shady enough, after all the "limited" terminology used to sell them in the first place. Even if they did different flags, or a different ship, it would have been fine.

So all they need to do is come up with a completely independent wireframe livery that looks almost exactly the same as the original one but has absolutely no ties to the 30th anniversary event.

I assume everyone would be okay with that then, yes? Cool, now I can get a job at FD in marketing. ;)

Wouldn't work. the whole point is whether we can trust FD's word or not, and wisecrack wordplay excuses would have the same result as plainly reneging their word. So it's accounting for you, sorry. :D

To my recollection, the wire frame was released to celebrate the anniversary. If it was ever released again I'd anticipate it to follow suit, in another 9 years or whatever. It was after all a limited release.

The flag ones were limited but enough people asked for them and Frontier released them again much to my discontent at the time.

If this one was available I would buy it!

It should not appear again as it was very much clearly stated that the sale was a one time only limited sale.

If they do sell it again I will not ask for my money back but I would not trust anymore one time limited sales.

But they could of course do wireframes for asp, python, sidewinder, anybonger etc
