Requirements for building a Coriolis starport

I've been bashing my calculator :) and as far as I can make out a Coriolis station is going to cost:

314,981,438 Credits

(that's the materials after the initial 25 million)

I'm very capable of making mistakes in the ancient art of maths - but does that sound about right?

I thought you get the money back from the construction ship?
Correct. You get paid for all the items you deliver.

So... you actually make money building these things.

I see others have done the calculation as well. Bought type 8 transporter to haul stuff, but I can fit like 280 units to it. coriolis station needs 70k of stuff if I calculated correctly. Thats 250 trips. If one is 10 mins, it's 41+ hours of just hauling stuff to get your station in 4 weeks done. I guess my station wont see daylight

Why not make this so that you could define the price you will buy the materials and it would show to players and npc's. Like in x4 station building. That way the filthy rich can just see stuff coming in and us poorer players get profit on that. Also would do wonders to game economy.

Get a large ship, will reduce trips to 1/3rd of that.

Why didn't you start with an outpost? Much lower requirements. And if you don't want to use a large ship for hauling, I would suggest revisiting your Type-8 configuration, 280 tons is very little capacity for that ship.

So If I understand correctly, the moral of this story is to stockpile materials on your carrier prior to making the big commitment.

Yep.

No rush but eventually I assume the ED Wiki or, perhaps, INARA will provide a comprehensive list of all the commodities required to build each type of station and players will be smart enough to realise which stuff can be picked up easily and which needs to be stockpiled.

Also, don't forget that there are/will be Commodity Traders too, so there'll be a similar situation to what we already have with Mat' Traders, whereby it's often much, much, quicker just to hoover up one thing and then trade it for what you actually need.

Be interesting to see if FDev start to give commodities a "grade", similar to mat's, or whether it'll just work based on price.
I mean, currently everybody's struggling to find CMMs but you could, theoretically, go out and spend a couple of hours mining Platinum and then, based on price, trade it for an FC full of CMMs.

Type8 doesnt cut it. Go for outpost first. That is half the mats. That way you can secure the system, if you have a great one. If not, better make some money so you can afford a Type9. It flies like a brick wrapped in lemons, but can haul over 750tons.

To get that money, you just need to fly 2000ly away and do some Bioscans on first footfall planets.

Get credits first. Get good ships first. Then use the ships that are right for the job.

Does the colonisation ship not exist outside of solo?
Completely missing the point but I'll answer it anyway ... There's not enough price delta to get people to reliably haul from carrier to colony ship. It's only going to be yourself or people being relatively charitable doing that work.

Grind update:

There are two surface settlements within jump range (I'm right on the edge of the bubble), I've made 6 trips between them tonight and have collected 358 CMM

Excellent, I should have my first outpost built by this time next year
No, at this rate you won't
Protip: maybe look at surface ports that have a better refresh rate.
