Rescuing people from Titans - the payout is... ugh.

Just went back from the Black to try the new human-mining stuff. Couldn't even make it to the Titan. Tried three times, three times got eventually interdicted by the Glaive and couldn't get rid of it. Need to bring some guns, I reckon...
I tried 7-8 times using a cobra: got kicked back out by the pulse field every time, and I tried various timings with the pulse neutralizer. That being said a hull tank cobra is easily fast enough to escape the interdictions, and of course the rebuy is low

The obvious question, maybe, but you are sure you did equip the pulse neutralizer and not a standard shutdown field neutralizer?

I’ve seen that mentioned in someone’s inara log entry detailing their Maelstrom diving mishaps, and they only realized after three attempts and a rebuy that they had the wrong neutralizer on the ship.

(If it is the timing, wait just until after the pulse is fired to trigger the pulse neutralizer. I have found that to work 100% reliably - though I do use a Krait, so I’m not entirely sure whether it drains a Cobra’s distributor any faster.)

Smallest ship I've seen get in is an Imperial Eagle, but I have found less weighty ships have a harder time getting in, just because the pushback even with a neutraliser can take a few goes to get through... my experience trying to get an I.Courier not particularly built for speed was quite difficult.

As above... there's definitely some pushback. I had the right neut on the I.Courier because I wasn't slingshotting out like usual, but I'd end up at around neg 300ms which would put me back behind the pulse trigger, so it would activate again... I can usually get in with heavier ships on just one activation, getting in with the I.Courier took about 4 or 5 last I tried?

Yeah, that does make some sense - I definitely recall noticing that with my Krait, it puts it at a negative velocity of ~55 m/s on it when the pushback wears off. I didn’t think it was mass-based, though, and I’ve heard of people making it through with a Cobra before(or at least I remember some saying they did, not sure which thread exactly).

Maybe there is a specific timing for the neutralizer which negates the effects of the wave almost entirely, but if it exists, I haven’t yet gotten it down.

I gave up on trying to deal with Glaives a while ago. If you relog quick enough once you see it's a Glaive, you don't have to take 15 seconds worth of damage before getting to the main menu. I typically arrive at the maelstrom with 100% hull and have an easier time actually doing what I'm trying to do inside.

Thanks for the reply and yes I’m sure: that was the first thing I checked. I did notice that it appears to charge up more slowly than some of the videos I have seen of kraits …

How far did it push you back? I end up 70km away with half my modules offline and even after a reboot I have power issues, despite the PP having around 90% integrity.

Yeah, that was the first thing
This sounds like you're fitting the wrong thing
Yeah, that was the first thing I checked: I can’t check again in game but according to inara I have the “0E thargoid pulse neutralizer “
Guess I’ll just have to try swapping it to a clipper …

Sounds like the correct module. Just work on the timing I guess (y)

I just tried it, just out of curiosity, because otherwise I don't think there's any point in using the Cobra for the job of getting people off Titan.

But I noticed that weird thing you described - in my first (failed) attempt, the TG Pulse Neutralizer charged incredibly slowly, something like 3 times slower than normal, even with 4 PIPS in SYS. And the next time I managed to pass and it worked normally.

In both cases I activated it in time, and in both cases the decontamination limpet was active, because Cobra does not have enough utility slots for caustic sink.

So maybe it's some bug, I'm not sure.

Does it actually "charge"? As in, is there an amount of time between you press the button and the moment it actually starts working?

I always thought it worked immediately as you press the button, and works continuously until you run out of juice in SYS.

Thanks! My suspicion was that the pulse neutralizer was not completely charging however long I waited, the progress bar seems to stop slightly short. But in any case if it requires multiple attempts for you as well I’ll just have to accept that the venerable cobra isn’t up to it. Did you have a shield fitted?

It worked immediately, but very slow, it was charged like 30% when pulse hit me.
My Cobra was without shield, with low emissions/thermal spread Power Plant, there's not enough power for shields.
And cargo space is very limited, that's the main reason to not use this ship. There's no point in fighting your way to Titan to possibly save 16 Pods, and that's if you're lucky. If someone really wants to use a small ship, then Dolphin is a good choice.

Slow is good in that case, as it means it's using up your SYS power slower = working for longer = longer margin for bad timing error :)

I use Orca personally, I'll post my build later on when I'm at my main PC.

Agreed that the cobra is not great for rescue, just cheap and cheerful ;-)
I was generally charged to over 70% when it hit me so I guess I’ll either have to share a video for science or just try another proven ship/loadout

Do they offer small subsurface missiles for extraction as well (Dolphin only has small hardpoints)? I've only come across size 2 ones, and yesterday even those weren't available at the Imperial Sanctum.

You are right, Dolphin is unusable due to small hardpoints, we only have class 2 extraction missiles. My mistake.
