Resolving the Griefer Issues

Greetings,

With thousands of posts over a number of years about dealing with griefers with no real solutions why don't we take it to the next level?

We are on a Forum. We have Moderators. From what I have seen they cannot remove a post (or maybe they can but choose not to) but can move posts to the appropriate sub forum and close them when appropriate.

Maybe we should have Moderators in the game as well. They cannot change the status of a player's account but will be flying around in Imperial Couriers with unlimited shielding and massive weapons only the top three ships have access to. In FE2 I had an Eagle with a Plasma Accelerator and a 3000LY jump range. Easy to do in ED. Thus when griefers are identified in a system they are going to have serious issues when the Moderators show up. Community Goals are different but new players getting killed just starting the game or those moments as in the current Beta 2.3 testing when many greifers take advantage of live players they will meet the Moderators.

There is no solution between PvE and PvP. Frontier maybe missed this point. There are different approaches to the game and will always be in conflict. So if we nerf the balance towards PvP maybe Moderators with serious ships could make a difference. Nothing else has worked so far.

Just an idea. Discuss/debate it but if it turns into a yelling fest like so many posts do then I'll ask a Moderator to close it. I do wish when a few people arguing back and forth add so many posts one has to wade through versus intelligent discussion the Moderators could help. But I figure that they are limited. I feel your frustration!

Regards

Just the solution everyone needs. An overpowered skilless cheating morel busybody going judge dredd on anyone accused of being a greifer. Remember to punch anyone you're told is a (member of the National Socialist German Workers' Party), friends!

There is a griefer issue? I hadn't noticed. I wonder how long a thread would last if I made an alternative argument.

The forum is bad enough, the thought of moderators policing the game is even worse. That said I doubt even an invulnerable ship would help.

No, actually I'm a Republican. That might be worse from your viewpoint.

I'm all for harsher police responses and more capable police, as long as they obey the same gameplay rules as everyone else. 'Moderators' with weapons and defenses we cannot acquire ourselves doesn't jive with me, nor in-game precedent.

No police response is going to prevent the sort of 'griefing' there is most often an outcry about. Response times would have to be impossibly low and the ships/A involved comically potent...even then suicide attackers could still get their kill before being taken down.

No, better AI all-round, and more rational, harder to bypass punishments for criminal acts in regulated space to act as some form of deterrent is about all that can be done without delving into the ridiculous. 'Griefing' and ganking will still happen, but will be inconvenient enough to stop most from indulging in it on a whim. The rest is on individual CMDRs themselves. Space can be dangerous, but space is also very big, plenty of places to go and things to see that aren't dangerous.

Actually, a lot of MMOs have company employees inside their worlds playing as cops/arbiters/whatever. We've all seen the videos where a cheat gets taken out by some unbelievably OP monster, those are usually not bots.

It should be something that provides a deterrence. If FDev sprinkle a bunch of anacondas that look and scan like sideys and haulers, it would deter a lot of low effort griefers. Every time they see a hollow square that looks like easy prey, they should ask themselves if they're feeling lucky. In fact, if FDev provide a module that disguises your ship's signature in supercruise, it would empower players to do this themselves. Is that sidey in eravate a noob, or one of S!lk's enforcers in a disguised corvette?

Good comments and worthy of consideration. Thanks! We need more intelligent comments like this versus the emotional responses we are about the see...

I'm most certainly against cheating but shooting at other players isn't

A deterrent to what? Its meant to be a cutthroat galaxy. It would help if people didnt cry griefer wolf all the time. PvP != griefing.

Nope too open to abuse. The forums come across åt times to be being a big boys club, dont want to see this in game with GM's.

Wouldn't it be exciting to pull out a shark when you were expecting a minnow? that's emergent content right there, and someone's throat^H^H^H^H^H^H net cable will probably be getting cut ;)

Griefer's Restaurant

I once talked with player who found elite very entertaining, i asked why he wouldn't switch to overwatch. He said that overwatch doesn't serve "salty meat" to my top notch cutter, but give me stiff try hards instead. He had 2.3 K/D in BF3.

Surprisingly, ED is in fact a griefer's restaurant.

Yes but I get to be first to be one.

I would also consider being a game Moderator with an invincible ship but that also means I have another task to perform taking away from my play style to do this. I'm not so sure that I want to go there. I'm busy! More into the concept after some players feel that they have mastered the game, are good guys/gals and looking for an opportunity to make a difference might consider this option. Just like the Forum there will be rules and limitations but taking our an identified griefer does seem to have a warm feeling in an Imp Courier!

well that's a SPLENDID idea...

So... You propose to have a band of even more overpowered griefers to grief at will in invincible (aka: cheat) ships? Just because someone is "playing their way and blazing their own trail" in a way you don't agree with? Gee, I think SDC will even volunteer to do that! ;-)
