Resource Extraction Sites are finally better than Double Hotspots!

It's been a long time coming, but it's finally true!

And to top it off, the wizards over at /r/EliteMiners successfully located a High Rez in the center of a Painite Hotspot! The location is....

Irusan 2A!

While mining within 20km of the high rez, you should expect to see 75% better mining output than a single hotspot. Compare this to a double painite hotspot, which gives, as of the recent patches, about 30% better than a single hotspot. There's been some debate on the precise numbers, but no matter what, the High Rez SHOULD give better results.

It's important to note that you can't approach this type of mining the same way you do normal mining. You WILL get attacked, and it takes a while for the cops to show up to help. So you'll probably want a much more tanky ship, possibly with some defensive turrets, and maybe a fighter bay. A wing will also be helpful, and DEFINITELY point defense.

But I think this offers a very different and entertaining way to mine!

Enjoy, pilots!

Good to know, however most mining ships are hopelessly equipped for combat, by the time you add better armour, shield and weapons, you don't really have much space left for cargo and your jump range also likely to suffer. I still prefer peaceful mining without interruption.

Possibly, but I've built a mining t10 with decent defenses, four defensive turrets, and a fighter bay, while still having 256 cargo space, which is more than enough to be worth hauling to a nearby carrier. Get three more of those and you could have a relatively safe and quite profitable time.

Fly Core Dynamics. Fly Federal Corvette.
Kick those pirates in the Arx!

Seriously, you can mine in good equipped ships.

I'm far from the bubble right now, when I get back I'll use that RES absolutely, my mining T-10 was originally built before the hotspot era and with 3 medium mining lasers plus 6 engineered turrets (including 4 large ones) it easily mined minerals and pirates simultaneously with the cargo hatch open, which was great to fill up on both painite and manufactured materials.

I've done this kind of mining in my Type 10yesterday actually. I found my own painite pristine hotspot with a haz res, not too hard to find a actually. I liked the pirate distractions for awhile, but then it became an annoyance. When the pirates had enough of being beaten up by my ship, they brought a wing of three, I had to high wake. Keep in mind that I'm fairly new at painite mining, but I didn't even have 60 tons after about an hour of gameplay in the haz res. I have been seeing about 120 tons an hour in a single hotspot without pirate distractions. I was getting scanned about once every five minutes it seems. So the yields are way less in my opinion, but the fun was more until I got attacked by the wing, then the fun was over! And to be honest, I think the 75% increase in yield estimate is very optimistic. I hope someone proves me wrong.

Here is a discussion on Reddit about the high res painite mining spot. They're saying they average 220t/hr which is double over what I see at regular hotspots.

Another thing about mining in a resource site, it's kind of amazing how far one travels while mining. I did try to stay quite far away from the center, but I'd often wander back accidentally and find myself like 7k from the center and then get attacked. Even when I was over 10k I found myself getting attacked a lot. I didn't try to stay within a 15k-20k band. It was kind of cool seeing the light show off in the distance with all the battling going on, and other NPC miners, but yeah, I was harassed a lot by NPC pirates and not once did police show up to help, I believe because I was in a hazardous zone. Maybe the high res is better than hazardous for the police support? I hope someone else does better than I did!

Where was your haz rez, if you don't mind me asking? I thought the best out there was a high rez!

We now have a fleet carrier in Irusan! Buying Painite at 700k each and restocking, hopefully it will help players more easily use this resource!

I'll do you a favor and let you find your very own. I've found three hazardous spots so far, five res sites total, three of them dead center. Not sharing because I don't want it to get cluttered with fleet carriers and other riff raff. If you look, you'll find one, I promise. Like I said before, they are not that rare. I have a harder time finding cheap tritium for crying out loud.

Have you considered a more Imperial approach?

Having 2x Size 8s instead of 3x Size 7 and still having 9 slots over size 5 on the Cutter means you can squeeze a fighter bay in as well and only give up one size 3 collector controller, and that gives any little gremlins that covet your cargo one more thing to think about.

Yeah, having the police support is going to make a big difference if you're there to mine because whilst the pirates are helping the police with their enquiries they won't be shooting you and you can mine in peace, recover shields, or just turn and squash them faster. In fact I suspect it's probably best to just target the first pirates that always scan you on arrival and fight them until the fuzz shows up.

Well after the painite was nerfed to hell, and platinuim being the preferred mining now, I have a combined haz res and high res platinium hotspot location: wolf 1458, 3rd planet, inner ring
