Help! Help! I'm being discussed!
And that would be the Spiders from Mars after the break-op.
Nice clip

The modes reflect the diversity of human personality. You can come into solo and manipulate the BGS back.
Cheers, Phos.
Can confirm; manipulating the BGS from solo is awfully similar to hiding. I don't see the difference, really.
So what is the problem with adding incentive to open by increasing the rewards to match with the extra danger from direct PVP? I still didnt hear any concrete answer except "kickstarter and backers".One player's "hiding" is another player's "choosing to play without those who might wish to engage them in PvP" - in a game where direct PvP is optional.

Recently I studied for a job interview and developed decent SQL skills. I got the job - in Elite terms I studied in solo but affected the open universe. Was I hiding? Should I have faced violence because I was studying? I think not. Elite is a game, but there's no reason why a game shouldn't include real world concepts.
Frontier recognise the diversity in human personality types and have designed a game which may appeal to extroverts, but which does appeal to introverts. That's their decision - it allows them to establish a unique selling proposition when compared to compulsory PvP games such as EvE. Perhaps that's why the company is doing well.
Cheers, Phos.
Frontier's repeated statements about all modes being equal and valid.
Plus the fact, when Sandro brandished the hand grenade (regarding an Open bonus for PowerPlay) it was not intended for the player but for the Power and only for PowerPlay, not the BGS, etc. - and, when asked nine months later if it was happening he said no, it wasn't and there were no plans to do so.
RL has nothing to do with video games, stop bringing this example. Can USA go to war with North Korea and just "block" all the Korean soldiers because they "force non consented war on USA"?
Except the modes are NOT equal:
NPCs exist in all modes - modes are equal
Thargoids exist in all modes - modes are equal
You can die while overheating from a star in all modes - modes are equal
You can die from the most threatening and challenging game mechanic (PVP) only in one mode - MODES ARE NOT EQUAL
Guns, vehicles, dragons, swords, bullets, planets, suns, stars, rockets? Games draw heavily on real life. I personally find Frontier's design for Elite: Dangerous effective and stimulating - it fits my personality type. Your mileage may vary.
Cheers, Phos.
And you find 3 modes of play where you can avoid direct contact with the enemy in a war resemble RL?
Two, actually, not one.
.... and Frontier decided long ago that direct PvP is an optional extra in this game - and did not decide to incentivise playing in any game mode at that time.
If reward were to be risk based then players in unEngineered, shieldless Sidewinders should receive a large bonus, in any game mode.
.... or players in trade ships that are easy to destroy should receive a large bonus compared to those in Engineered meta-combat ships that are rather hard to destroy, again in any game mode.
The use of combat drones piloted from the safety of an air base rather far away from combat would seem to be the current analog to engaging in war from Solo.
PGs were created to avoid PVP, there are no PVP PGs AFAIK, so only open has PVP.
Reward should be risk based, but flying an un-shielded trader/sidewinders is not a risk, its stupidity.

If you show up in an enemy controlled star system and start massacring civilians in SOLO, while your enemy cannot protect them, this is RL for you? which planet is this RL happening on?
Equal <> exactly the same. FD already decided that the modes are balanced, see you in solo![]()
