Returning commander needs help

Yes, I'm looking forward to these non-combat things. But I don't think I'm going to do that too often, I am already a multi billionaire.
It's nice to walk on space stations but than again, there isn't THAT much … albeit, my eyes did get a bit wet, the first time I saw (one of) my ship(s) up close and could walk around it.

But yeah, the Thargoid thingy was found, the superduper FSD was bought and just before turning in for the night I purchased the Mandalay. Engineering this will have to wait until tomorrow.

I was wondering why the jump range is not at the value where it should be. It turned out, that the pre-engineered FSD (SCO) is just partly pre-engineered and does NOT have the Mass Manager experimental effect engineered into it before I did so myself.

Is there anything I should buy for the spacesuit? Are there specialized space suits?
There are 3 suits, one for fighting, one for sneaking, one for exploring. They come in various levels (disembark at a station to have a look) Not all stations have the same start levels. They can all be engineered. I can't help you with builds, because none of mine are engineered and the only 1 that I wear (explorer) I have never engineered because I haven't found any engineering that would add to my playstyle.

Yeah if you look around you can get spacesuits up to grade 3 some with special mods already built in, I managed to pick up a Grade 3 Maverick suit with night vision and damage resistance mods from a station, shop around a bit, look in the thread that advertises the personal equipment, you can cut out a lot of suit and weapon engineering by just buying what you want directly.

pøøøh … am i understanding correctly that I can't get suit upgrades materials without (basically) killing people because these are in bases? Or is it possible to buy the necessary stuff somewhere?

You get materials from missions, delivery missions require no killing, you can also loot abandoned settlements and etc.

Oh, good to hear. I had guessed something like the former but wasn't sure.
Is there a list / webside / tool somewhere that can point me to te correct type of abandoned settlements? I found videos that have shown how to easily gather e.g. suit checmatics but they all did the violent approach.
And what kind of star systems spawn missions with the correct type of mission rewards?

What the heck?
I was doing on foot missions using the Apex shuttle to travel around. Got some errors (e.g. Mauve Adder) a couple of times. Managed to do one missions (also learned the hard way that pulling your gun by accident is not a good idea) just landed on a planet with another mission target, the game threw another error, I get back in … and ALL missions are gone.
Does that happen often? Logging back in is alright going on my nerves but I can live with that. But losing all progress, not so much.

Not too often actually, at least no more than typical online/server games reliant upon 'AWS'. However, when it does happen here in EliteD , it seems/tends to happen real bad. ( accompanied by rather inconsistant forum communications/illuminations too, for whatever reason ) .
In this particular case you (and everyone else ) just experienced , i believe it's related to a specific "open BETA" situation--> https://forums.frontier.co.uk/threads/elite-dangerous-system-colonisation-claims-unpaused.635153/

Høøh? I'm traveled back to the station where I started and suddenly the missions appear in my transactions window again … sigh … except, all of them not done, even the one that was done … too late to do anything today so I abandoned all of them. I don't understand any of this … sigh

You most likely just had what irks & perplexes every online player ( and developer ) in history of MMOs: The dreaded de-sync
Basically, their server & your game-client had a bad "convo" . This is why, often times, doing a quick relog helps to refresh a more current/accurate digital reality.

Welcome! The only extras I use are Inara, to find places, and Elite Dangerous Materials Helper (EDMH), to keep track of what I have and what I need to get to upgrade my on-foot Suit and Weapons and unlock engineers. It's extremely useful. Both of these work fine on Linux.

Let me know if you try it and can't locate your "Journal Folder" - it was a heck of a thing to find.

Darn … if I have a "location conflict" for a mission is there any way to see WHICH other mission the conflict is with? Or at least that I can see to which location said first mission goes to?
I'm asking because I'm specifically looking for missions that have suit schematics as a reward. At the same time I do other on foot missions to get any other materials for bartering. The problem is now, if I see a "suit schematics" missions with a location conflict I have to cancel semi-randomly a number of "any material" missions until the conflict is resolved. It would be much nicer to cancel just the one mission that causes the conflict.

Alright … the suit is at level 5 … now the engineering … … … oh darn … even more stuff needs to be collected … and I need to go to Colonia so that I don't need to do combat stuff … * sigh *

Lesson learned: Do not jump on the wing of a cutter while it's lifting off … you will fail the actual mission. Also: it seems the ER docs are stealing my stuff, because what else should have happened to that package that I just picked up?

Right … it seems Colonia is the only place where I can get engineering for my suit without fighting.
The last couple of days I collected all materials I need (gosh I love the Apex shuttle system!). Of course, when I only need some few more that never showed up as mission rewards (e.g. Culinary recipes) I discovered that such components can be bought at fleet carriers and Inara shows me which ones have what I need … THAT would have been really nice to know before the grind because if I have a lot of one thing it's money.

Anyways, to Colonia! … Tomorrow that is.

Some good tips here, for doing exactly what you are doing:

I have got neither, my suit has been upgraded to grade 5, but as you I have not yet bothered to go to Colonia to mod it,

Suit upgrades are done where you buy your suits.

The two mods that I was looking at were improved jump assist and increased sprint duration, the two you are looking at would be my third and fourth

It is very rare that I hunt on the dark side of a planet and if I do so I use the SRV which has 2 levels of light and I park so that the bio is in the light.

Most of the time I do not use my SRV, for longer distances I fly and short distance I use a run - jump - jetpack way of moving, the secret is while you are above the ground your run timer is paused but you are still moving forward at run speed.

In a close area I can do 2 Bio's (6 scans) and get back to my ship before running out of battery but if in doubt return and get a top up.
