Newcomer / Intro Returning Player requiring a bit of Guidance

Hi Everyone,

I've played on and off for a few years & have recently returned after a long break and getting the latest DLC (Odyssey). Last few ventures in the game, I didn't really know what to do/where to go/ how to do things but after watching a few videos online, decided to return and actually make a go of the game.
So now for the questions:

For Ground missions, I've grabbed the guns (Sniper / Blaster) and the "Do it all" Suit - Is there a certain location that gives out easy-ish missions until I'm out of "Noob" mode? Tried a couple level 3 Assassination missions and pretty much got it handed to me!! Ahahaha.

Re-learning how to fly again, I'm in a Cobra MkIII, seems I have unlocked Engineering but only the first level. I'm a keyboard/mouse player as I just find it easier & run with a binding set as if I'm playing an FPS.
I'm sat on around 30mill CR (stop laughing!), access to a couple Fed Ships (though not owned), and a bunch of system Permits (Sol, ect) so I'm wondering, is it worth me just deleting my current commander and starting again or just sticking with him until I can get myself back up to scratch? To be honest, I have no idea how long it originally took to get the permits or unlock the Fed ships!
Also, checking the Galaxy map, I've not really been anywhere with him either so it wouldn't be as though I'm losing that much! Or am I wrong?

I was sort of hoping that after all this time, you could at least create a second commander on the same account which would have made the transition returning a lot easier but hey ho!

Thanks in advance for any advice

If you're not too far into engineers (which is the only really annoying thing to have to re-do) and ship collecting, I would very much recommend hitting that "Clear save" button in the options and starting completely over with a new commander.
Yes, Fed/Imp ranks can be a bit annoying to get back, too, but it's nothing you couldn't do in a couple of months of just playing the game

Odyssey does have a rather nice tutorial section at the start and easing yourself into flying is also easier in a Sidewinder in the noob zone.

i deleted my commander after three years of solid gameplay.
i very rarely regret that decision, mostly where engineering is concerned i get a little yearny.
i started fresh when odyssey dropped, and have been having a blast since. im playing the game a little differently this time than i did last time, focusing on the world around me instead of my bank balance... and its working very well.
there are some very good tuturials available right in the game as well.
if you would like to relearn the game with a small group that knows pretty well what we are doing, i have a squad ive just formed called Raxxla Seekers Society (rxss) that would welcome you. we do just about every aspect of the game from bgs to exploration to our (somewhat obvious) search for raxxla. you are not required to follow any style with us, its more a group of people who just like hanging out in discord and are trying to build something from the ground up. we have discord forums for sharing our information as well.

Yeah, I second @Chris Simon - clear save and start fresh. There is a newcomer's zone of a few systems which is permit-locked to people who have been promoted and left so you can paddle about in there just to get the feel of the space-ship side of things. Ships and gear are very limited in there though so you will probably want to leave there before too long.

I don't think they have any easy-mode surface combat in that starter zone - but since you don't really lose much when killed critically injured in on-foot combat you can just jump into a low-intensity surface combat zone and learn by dying getting critically injured.

You can find pre-upgraded suits and weapons if you have a look around (there is a thread elsewhere informing of some finds) but best if you earn some credits before shelling out over 11million for a suit. ;)

EDIT - I too keep leaving the game for long periods, ship-wise stuff doesn't change much and the on-foot seems not too hard although I have not tried any on the Odyssey engineering stuff yet - I am not into the FPS side but the walking about on planets is interesting. (As long as your graphics card can handle the on-foot stuff.)

What would you consider an easy ground mission? Deliveries are pretty simple. I wouldn't have thought any kind of assassination as noob friendly, no matter the threat.

Big thanks to all for taking the time to reply. Consensus seems to be to just a fresh restart which I shall do when I next log in. I will admit that is was the FPS aspect that drew me back & wanting to learn how to pilot a ship properly.

@metatheurgist - It was Assassination missions I was hoping to give a go though sounds like I may need to hang fire there until I've passed the "noob mode"! Haha

@Fnord Velkor - thanks, I shall take a look and said thread.

Again, thanks for all the advice and see you all out in the big void of nothingness(y)
