Reverse thrust?

On my X-55 hotas. My throttle is set to forward only, but I have two reverse options.
1. Press a button to reverse the throttle. Tap that button and now the throttle works as a reverse thrust instead of forward. Press again to switch back to forward throttle.
2. Another button to instantly apply full reverse thrust without having to move the throttle. I use this when landing and also particularly useful for mining as a forward backward motion is required to quickly pick up the frags. When collecting I have the throttle just forward enough to be able to scoop, just before or as I scoop I hold down the reverse thrust button which overrides the throttle and starts applying reverse thrust. As soon as I let go of that button, it starts forward thrusting again unless I pull the throttle back to zero.

There are 5 usable hats and about 26 buttons all up and 4 extra slider wheels all available as standard. If you there use their software and 3 position mode switch, there are tones more options, but that's too hard to get my brain around. (I do still use the mouse in the galaxy map, its a bit awkward with the joystick)

My x52 has the full range set on the throttle, the indents almost always line up with blue sweet spots. I have most functions on the joystick or throttle and for the rest I have voice attack.

I have read about voice attack, it sounds good. Sadly,I play (with headphones) when family is asleep so that would not be allowed methinks. The budget is telling me it has to the T-flight.

Note, since we're talking about HOTAS, the one thing that's a problem with the CH Pro Throttle is, it's a slider with no center detente. So I can't easily set 0 Forward/Reverse thrust. I have to do the reverse thrust button.

Here my DIY center detent for the CH pro - its a block of foam rubber with a "V" cut into the front and covered with insulation tape.

can't decid if i go DK2 or wait for a possible release this summer (but that's so faaaaaar)

I can guarantee you it won't be out in summer. Oculus guys stated it's possible they may get a release by the end of the year, but that's a big maybe. A few months ago, they said release would be "many months" but not years. Because of that, I pulled the trigger. I figure even 6 months playing on the DK2 would be worth it, as I can likely sell it for a loss on E-bay (DK1's sell for half the price, and DK2's sell for MORE than original price). There's no back log anymore. Mine shipped within 2 days of order.

Just to re-iterate what others have said a bit, with the Thrustmaster T.Flight HOTAS you can either have the throttle do forwards and reverse (with the mid sticking position be 0) or, and this is what I prefer, have the full range of the throttle be from 0 to 100% with a button to swap this into reverse thrust. The great thing about the latter is that the mid sticking postion becomes 50% which is typically the maximum manoeuvering position and thus great for combat since you can find it by feel alone.

I use 0-100% throttle and a switch on the throttle for reverse thrust. That said, I rarely use it unless I'm about to overfly a target that I'm shooting at, or need to correct when docking.
I don't use the keyboard for any controls, but I've never bothered trying to replace the mouse in the Galaxy map. I assume it can be done but a mouse works well :)
Maybe I'll try if I get an Oculus Rift

The way I use the Thrustmaster T HOTAS is throttle set to forward / reverse with indent as zero, finding the sweet spot at 50% comes with playing.

I haven't changed too much on the config, except the hat, that I set to left for sys and right to wep pips, this combined with up down for thrusters (left right thusters are on the toggle on the back of the accelerator stick), but also use the override to change up and down to thrusters when my landing gear is down. In addition to this I use Roccat Power Grid for the other controls I don't like on the stick (jettison cargo, silent flight, jump, etc)

There are plenty of options out there on the forum that may help you off the keyboard.

Me for one like to keep it simple, but a few of the answers here gave me a few ideas to change my config around a bit :)

I love my wife. She just bought the T-Flight for me without it being a birthday or Christmas. Delivery in 3 to 4 days. Now I must study setups. Are there any links for good setups, or a dedicated thread?

I have a X52 pro and still needed a few extra buttons so I had an idea......

£4 off ebay for a PS2 number pad and then stuck stickers on it:

I haven't finished yet but use the FOR and BACK buttons for thrust in docking and the others are obvious. It works for me and had freed up a few buttons on the X52 pro to use for different purposes. I wasn't a big fan of having things like heat sink, chaff etc on fire groups but in the controls section they have hot keys so can be used with the key pad.

Now that is the kind of info I couldn't find elsewhere. I was considering that model simply due to budget constraints, but I noticed that it did not seem to have enough buttons or hats to completely remove the keyboard. Am I wrong on that score?

Also, does the throttle have a detent at the zero point?

Didnt read the rest of the topic, sorry for any redundancy. I use a T-flight HOTAS, and I've set the throttle to forward only. This means the middle zone (with a physical click) is the throttle bluezone. I've set another button to reverse thrust. During flight I never ever need the keyboard or mouse. I only use the mouse for the galaxy map, but I probably should be able to bind some buttons there too. The HOTAS itself allows for pitch, yaw, roll, thrust, vertical and lateral thrusters, power distributor control, boost, landing gear, cargo scoop, FSD, free-look, menu control primary and secondary weapon control, target selection and probably some I forget. Remember that ED allows for double-control: for example one buttons functions as 'shift'. This way you can double or triple the functions of your buttons: if the x-flight HOTAS can do it I am pretty sure the more expensive alternatives can do it too!

I use the Thrustmaster Warthog. it has so many buttons and switches that it covers all that ED currently has. That said, I still use Voice Attack for those less used functions (landing gear, cargo scooping, etc). Only use the keyboard & mouse in the maps and that is only because the interface doesn't work well with my Oculus. It really needs a virtual keyboard instead of what it currently has.

With the X52 pro (still waiting to come back from repair) I got 0 to full on the throttle, one button to set it to reverse one for boost (both on the thumb reachable buttons [ also not try yo back out of a mail slot when you forget to ask permission and hit the boost key on accident when you got the landing gear up, back of the station comes up mighty fast and feels very solid]) the hat on the front of the throttle I got left and right thrust and forward and back, the manoeuvering thrust basically. I found them also useful to show down when I don't want to slam into reverse throttle, like to slow down near a Stratton, bleed off speed in combat and even after boosting.

I use an x52 and while the thrust control is 0 to full on forward thrust, I have mapped a button on the throttle controller to give a blast of reverse thrust. Find it handy for, as you say, docking and manoeuvring during combat.

This is what I did, works really well.
