Reviving CQC

This has been said before but:

CQC is a fantastic mode and a beloved featured to many cmdrs. Sadly it has long been ignored which lead to a very small player base thus create many problems:
  • Long waiting time to almost no game if not playing in certain time zone.
  • Even when find a match, new players have a high chance of facing level 50 players, some are notorious for just one - two shots you in the face, which discourages many new players to further explore the mode (I am not mentioning any name but this is quite a serious problem, you can try yourself to see how bad it is).
  • Plagued with second accounts farming.

Here are some of my suggestion to revive CQC:
  • Promote CQC by boosting the rewards, could be in cr or small amount of arx, special paintjob, bobblehead etc ... announced it through GalNet.
  • Battling the second accounts farming by adding auto kicked out for afk (could be more than 30 - 60 secs of sitting idle etc).
  • Create barrier for players under level 10 to not meet a 50 level account, this will both discourage the afk farm and prevent new players from getting negative experience.
  • Have special community goal event for CQC?

These are a few generalized suggestions. Please feel free to argue or add more detailed ideas.

Please FDev, you already created an amazing feature, dont let it dies.

I like most of it, but what it really needs, is bots. Bots with a competent AI scaled to the level of the real humans in that lobby. Have bots not count, or count significantly less, towards rank progression if new players ranking up off of bots bothers enough of the community.
I would further segment the players by rank, but give them the choice to do so. Something along the lines of a 10/20-50 system.
(50 levels, only players inside of 10 or 20 levels of each other end up in the same lobby, unless the lower ranked players in a lobby have it turned off.)
Having tournaments with actual player ships with zero rebuy costs would be a cool edition to it as well. Have a small, med, and large classes.

CQC had a lot of promise, they just sort of tacked it on and left it. They never made it truly part of the game. It may as well not exist in the game as it is. The only tangible benefit is a system permit. Give us a few credits, some engineering mats/dat, maybe an Arx or 10 up to some limit for participating and a few more for winning. Make it part of the rest of the game.

Solo CQC v bots would be great training and good fun. I really like CQC, it has massive potential for FD, needs some fresh thinking and some new arenas. I like the idea of collectible mats/data. Is it still available as stand alone download for those whose pcs aren’t good enough for full game?

No, it's not, but it's system requirements are the same as the base game. I play Horizons just fine, (60FPS @ 1080P with low settings), on an Intel Iris Plus 940 integrated. It's not a terribly demanding game at this point.

 Uhhhh....
Yeah, what I mean is consistent player base. CQC is a great mode itself. It is sad they many new cmdrs turnning away from it because of the lack of reward and there is no system to prevent new players playing against who dedicated thousand of hours doing it.

An analogy is you as a casual gamer have to face pros the first day you try Counter Strike, after getting hundred deaths and with luck only 1-2 killed back, it is a hardly positive experience. Combined with a pitiful cr earning, there aint much incentives to continue for many cmdrs.

I used to play alot of Hawken before elite and I liked the way they Ballanced Bots. The Bots AI were very well done. They were enough to give you a good challenge without being OP or UP. Often times it was difficult to distinguish between actual players and bots. Sometimes they would even drop a taunt as they were killing you. The draw back was they only gave you a fraction of the EXP points as real players and human players were much deadlier when moving in groups. CQC could certainly benefit from bots.

I really have to support these suggestions. CQC could be really fun, but for now it's completely ruined by the few level 50 players. I'd rather play against bots if that's the only way to get enough players to get it going. Under no circumstances should anyone below level 15 have to face the level 50 players. If there is no way to avoid it, maybe the high level players would be forced to use the same equipment as the lowest level player there. And remove the power ups as they give a massive advantage to the experienced players. Or scale them with level, so the higher level players loose effectiveness in relation to the lowest player in the game.

Why should I spend my time dogfighting for nothing when I can dogfight for credits, mats and rank? The answer is there is no reason to, hence why CQC is a ghost town.

The only thing that is going to get people to play CQC is to have it tied into ED in some meaningful way. Credit/mat rewards or otherwise.

To me combat is the most fun part of Elite, and CQC allows me to do that without the hassle of grinding for credits or materials. However I can see your point, and would absolutely play more CQC if it would reward G4/G5 engineering materials. As for rank you do get CQC rank, but I guess most people would want the combat rank as well.
Credits is just too easy to get in the main game, so I don't see why that would really tempt a lot of people, but I don't see a negative to it either, so maybe this should be like the missions in the main game: You can choose your reward: Materials, credits or reputation (increase combat rank).
