Rift Higher Price than Expected? $600

Fairly smooth actually. First 6 minutes were spent refreshing to get in. Then logged into my Oculus account and filled in my CC#. Took 5 tries at the "complete" button but then it confirmed. I've received a email saying my unitl will ship March 28th. Try just going to your basket and checking out. It might just not want to let you add more than 1 to the basket.

I see. Hmm no it definitely says Ive already preordered and wont let me go past the shipping details let alone payment. I guess I'll wait and see after a bit, make a sandwich Im starvin.

Very disappointed. Doesn't actually seem as though the 'free' controller + games are really free does it? Maybe Oculus can offer rifts without the crap controller and arcade titles? They don't interest me anyway, plus I have a Xbox pad already. Was thinking most of the day at work about getting home and offering up the credit card and placing my order. I was really pretty excited for it. I feel now though that the wind has been taken out of my sails a little.

Thankfully I am still enamoured with my DK2, so am not without my VR fix. It just seems like a bad start to the VR revolution. Making it only for the wealthy isn't the best way to get a huge hold on the market. Missed opportunity I reckon.
Thing is, I probably will keep too-ing and fro-ing on it and may still buy it now, but it will definately leave a bitter taste for sure.

Hmmm..

I placed an order (UK). It ships in April.
Since they don't deduct the money from your credit card until it shipped, I figured I'd get in the queue. If the Vive is better I'll cancel and nothing lost.

Didn't realise they didn't charge your card until dispatch, tempted to pre-order now and follow your cunning plan :)

Why is it more expensive in CA than here in MA? I only paid $630 for mine.
I only paid 629.99 and I am in MA also, perhaps their warehouse is in MA ? I pre-ordered mine very excited., I've had the 600 dollars put away for the Oculus since April of last year. Always suspected it would be a bit more once the consumer version was released.
At least they are not hitting the bank account when you preorder, if you decide to cancel before release, no harm, no foul.
FD has 4 months to get the CV1 optimized for ED very doable. I suspect that the VIVE with two cameras is going to ring in closer to 1000 USD when it is released, which I suspect wont be until either late 2016 (Christmas time) or early next year. Due date push backs usually mean problems with the design, Oculus went thru 2 iterations of the Rift before they even considered a consumer version. VIVE will have their growing pains too.

In the last step, where there are the checks for the TOUCH and various PC builts, there is a voice saying that the TOUCH controls have to be authorized from FCC bla bla. what does that mean? Temporary Banned? :D

DK1 borrower, DK2 Owner, Massive Fan of VR, ready to preorder.......how much? £530.....Ha ha, nope, I'll wait thanks.

$600 is way too steep for me especially since Elite is probably the only game I'd be using it for. I guess that money's going to a 4K screen instead which will be practical for a lot of different reasons.

I was really looking forward to VR, too. With $350 developer kits I expected CV1 to be far more affordable than it is.

Will stick with DK 2 and see what Vive offers. Progress and engagement since the DK2 has been decidedly underwhelming and certainly doesn't appear to justify the price tag.

I am quite prepared to pay the price, or more, for the right product, but Oculus have not convinced me that this is it. And they certainly aren't launching mass market VR here.

Price gouge.Hype it up, call it new normal, market price, expect people to ignore crazy price for new tech.
Don't tell them you might have to upgrade your system to have it work properly.
Was actually thinking about getting one...til this morning.

And it probably won't work for elite.

Crazy? Really? You're getting a fair chunk of tech for your money IMHO. And they don't tell tell people they might have to upgrade? Again, really? They even provide a software tool that tells you if your PC is good enough and they have not been shy in stating what level of PC is needed. Not only that but they have an "Oculus Ready" programme to certify equipment. If you've missed all that then you deserve to be sitting there, crying, with a CV1 and a 486 laptop! :p ;)
