Rift users: does SteamVR start every time you launch ED?

If I launch the game with the OculusVR service stopped then SteamVR starts. Even if 3D is set to Off. The only way I've found so far to stop it happening is to uninstall SteamVR. It's not really a big deal, doesn't seem to cause any performance issues, just a bit annoying as the game will go full-screen and then go back to the desktop when the SteamVR status panel pops-up.

I'm fairly certain this started happening with 2.2.03

Just wondering if it's the same for all Rift users (or perhaps even Vive users who want to play in 2D?) and if anybody has found a way to stop it.

Yes it happens on VIVE.

Even if I'm just playing in 2d.

Also even if I unplug the Vive from USB, still happens.

It's been a bit of a pain because there is a tickbox in SteamVR (maybe try changing this) is I have it ticked SteamVR starts with the little pop up box I can close down after.

But if I have it unticked this box does not pop up but the two steam vr related services still start up in the background, and they stay running even if I shut down ED.

My copy isnt a steam copy so I've never had that happen yet.

don't use Elite with steam... unless you want all sorts of issues...

ED is not installed through Steam, this is just using the regular launcher. I could sort of understand it if I was playing via Steam :) (though it still wouldn't make sense if playing in 2D)

Thanks for the response. Yes there is a box in Settings under Developer 'Start SteamVR when an application starts' but it makes no difference. Interesting that you have two background services as I don't (unless they have obscure names), that was the first thing I looked for to see if there was something I could disable. EDIT: just realised you might be referring to the pop-up panels.

Just found this bug report: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showt...mVR-Launches-Automatically-When-It-Should-Not

I have always Launched ED from Steam and it doesn't start SteamVR. It starts the Oculus software.

In ED you can just start ED normally and under 3D select HMD and it should run without problems.
